11 Ways You Know You're Home From College

I've recently finished my first year of college and it feels amazing! Don't get me wrong, college is great, but there is just something so wonderful about being back home. I no longer have to Skype to see my siblings and I finally get to eat my mom's heavenly food again. There are some things that are just completely different at home than they are at college ... some for the better and some, maybe not so much.

1. Suddenly you room doubles in size.

In all honesty, my dorm room was super nice and I had plenty of room for all of my things, but now I have room to create a full-on dance routine if I wanted to.

2. Your shower does too.

Shaving your legs in those tiny college showers is quite the challenge. I think there were at least three or four times where I got a cramp from having my leg all twisted up in such a small space. I fell. Twice.

3. Real. Food.

Okay I don't know about you, but nothing beats my mom's cooking. I seriously feel like I am eating gourmet food when I come home after eating college campus food everyday.

4. Everyone asks how college was as if you had left the country for a whole lifetime.

Remember your senior year of high school when everyone asked what you were going to do with your life? Well, they don't stop asking even after you come back from college. It's nice that people care, but even I don't really know what my future holds. Who knows, maybe I'll drop out next semester and become an acrobat.

5. You get your car back.

Nothing is better than getting your freedom back to go where you want, when you want. No more paying for bus tickets or begging your friend who has a car on campus to take you to the store.

6. High school comes back to haunt you.

Some people really love high school but I'm not one of those people. I've only been home for a few days and I'm already being pulled into going to my high school's events.

7. But your high school friends are still cool.

The girls I met in high school are the best people I have ever met. I love them to death and continue to talk to them weekly even when we are far apart from each other. I love coming home to spend time together whether that be by watching movies or going on fun little road trips.

8. Chores.

Dishes. I despise doing the dishes and now that I'm home and "a part of the family," I "get" to participate in cleaning the dishes every night after dinner. Of course, in college you still have clean-up responsibilities but for some reason it is just not as fun when you have to do them at home.

9. You have to take summer classes so that you don't die when you get back to school.

Isn't summer supposed to be a relaxation period with no studying, classes, or homework? I wish. I'm already taking 18 credits next semester and there is no way I'm going to take any more than that, so summer school it is.

10. Work.

I had a job at school but obviously it wasn't full time. School is expensive so I'll be spending most of my days in an office building. Fun.

11. You miss your friends from college.

I love being home but I made some amazing friends during my first year of college. Being back home is wonderful but let's face it, in a week I'll probably be ready to go back to college.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
