We've all heard the words "I love you" probably a thousand plus times in our lives and said them a thousand and one times. But what happens when those three little words just don't seem like enough anymore? Well here's a list of eleven other ways to tell that special someone, be it your mom, your sister, your dog, or your significant other, just how much they mean to you.
1. Tell them just how special they are to you.
Telling someone exactly why and how they have made your life better is always a good first start to bettering the old 'I love you' pickle, because not only does it force yourself to think critically about why you love this person, it also allows this person to get an inside view of your thought process, which is always an intimate experience.
2. Tell them how proud you are of them.
Think about it, when's the last time someone told you that they were proud of you? It's a small phrase but carries such a powerful meaning. Being proud of a person you love seems obvious, but highlighting that specific pride can often feel better than you could ever imagine.
3. Do something small for them - like clean the bathroom or make the bed.
Is there something the person you love always does for you? Well, do it for them. This tiny action will communicate without words not only that you take notice of all the little things they do for you, but that you appreciate it and want to do the same for them.
4. Actively listen to them.
It seems simple, but try and recall the last time you gave this person your full attention - weren't looking somewhere else, or thinking of the thousand other things you need to be doing. Just taking the time to put all of your focus on hearing your loved one can communicate more things than you ever imagined.
5. Write them a note.
Taking the time to handwrite a note to someone is a unique and meaningful way to communicate things that may be hard to say. Also, taking the time to write a note is a more thoughtful way of saying everyday things like "I love you" making your feelings stronger.
6. Touch each other...and not in a sexual way.
Hugs, kisses, pats on the back - a physical touch can communicate so much emotion with minimal effort. Taking the time to hold someone's hand or rub their thigh is a way of showing your effort into making this relationship more personal and intimate than your other everyday relationships.
7. Make time to do nothing together.
It's easy to get lost in a hectic schedule and feel as though every millisecond of your time needs to be planned out. Making time for someone is a good first step, but making time to literally just spend time with someone is an incredibly powerful way to show to someone that they matter more than anything else in your life that's going on.
8. Surprise them.
Nothing gets me like being surprised with flowers - and the reason is relatively simple. Small surprises show that special someone that you're always thinking about them and thinking of ways to make them happy. Knowing that your happiness is a priority for someone else is an incredible feeling.
9. Send them a text message during the day telling them you love them.
Now, I know on its face, this seems contradictory to this article, but I promise it's not. Taking time out of your day, just to let someone know that you're thinking of them and you love them is an action that only intensifies the feeling, because again it shows that this relationship is more important than the five million other things you should be doing in that moment.
10. Try something they love, even if it's not your thing.
Be this food or an activity, trying something you know your significant other loves but you really don't is the perfect way to show someone that you put their wants and interests above your own - which is what love is really all about right?
11. Tell them how happy they make you.
Knowing that you make someone happy is one of the greatest feelings in the world. It's easy, especially the longer you have a relationship with someone, to forget to mention these small but meaningful things. But, believe me, no one ever gets tired of hearing how happy they make someone feel.
