Now that summer vacation is coming to an end, it is time to start getting ready for school. I don't know about you, but I like to get as much sleep as possible. This means my getting ready routine needs be fast. Here are 11 ways to shorten your morning routine.

1. Make a playlist that is as long as you want to take to get ready.

It definitely helps to have upbeat songs that get you going. Be sure to know where you need to be in your routine at each song. For example, by the end of "Hollaback Girl" be done brushing your teeth and washing your face.

2. Pack your lunch the night before or have a stash of lunch money in your backpack.

This way you don't need to even think about it before school, saving up to 20 minutes!

3. If you wear makeup, keep your daily makeup together in a bag.

Finding your daily eyeliner and mascara in the huge makeup bag of at least 50 products takes up more time than you think.

4. Brush and braid your hair before bed.

Hair tends to get less tangled when it's in a braid; thus shortening the amount of time it takes to brush it.

5. Put all of your homework/textbooks/stuff you need to take to school in your backpack the night before.

Trying to find your math homework, printing your English paper, and getting your chemistry textbook in your backpack that early in the morning can actually take up a lot of time.

6. Make efficient breakfasts.

What even are efficient breakfasts? Well, a bagel, for example, is an efficient breakfast. While it is toasting, you can brush your hair. It is also clean enough to eat in the car ride/bus ride/walk to school.

7. Pick out all of your outfits for the upcoming school week on the Sunday.

You wouldn't believe how long you stand in front of your closet trying to decide what to wear.

8. DO NOT GO ON YOUR PHONE.

Do you know how long you could be sucked into the deep and dark hole of cute puppy pictures and "easy" DIY life hacks? Feel free to check your phone on the way to school (if you are not driving yourself of course) or once you are at school.

9. Check your nails the day before.

Don't try to fix your chipped nail polish in the morning. The nails will take forever to dry and will hinder you from getting ready fast.

10. Turn your morning routine into a competition with yourself.

Time how long it takes you to get ready in the morning and try to beat it the next day. I have my morning routine down to 12 minutes!

11. If you have practice for a sport after school, have everything you need ready the night before.

Picking out a pair of practice clothes, packing water bottles, and food for practice can double your morning routine time.

Now that you have some ways to shorten your morning routine, I hope you do so and get at least an extra hour of sleep!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
