11 Ways To Make Yourself Happier

Let's face it, life can be more hectic than fun. Between work, school, extracurriculars, or whatever else is going on, not many people take time to focus on themselves. Here are 11 simple ways to make yourself happier and to improve your well being. Enjoy!

1. Don't sleep in past 9 o'clock.

When you sleep in late, not only do you waste the day, but you're also groggy and in a bad mood. Waking up earlier allows you to use more hours in the day for activities.

2. Worry less about others.

Worrying about other people is a common thing that most people do. However, it's not always the best option. Especially if they are just adding unnecessary stress to your life.

3. Make a good playlist.

Listen to it while cleaning, doing laundry, or crafting. And maybe even plug in the aux cord and listen while driving. Good music = good vibes.

4. Take care of plants.

Cacti and succulents are both beautiful, and fairly easy to take care of. They are really good at cheering you up and it's exciting to watch them grow.

5. Update your wardrobe.

Sometimes slipping into some new clothes can make you feel like a whole new person.

6. Buy yourself some new makeup.

Because sometimes being happy is as simple as a new lipstick color. Well, being Blair Waldorf would help too, but let's try for something more realistic here.

7. Binge watch a show on Netflix.

You know that new show you just added to your list that you just haven't had time to get to? Go ahead and watch it. It'll be nice to avoid some responsibilities for a while.

8. Travel.

Go to New York City. Go to the desert. Go to Europe. Anything is possible, and the experiences will be priceless.

9. Start writing.

Write, and be proud of it. Even if nobody will ever see it, it's something you created and can even be a stress reliever. If Nick can do it, so can you.

10. Spend time outside.

Being outside in the sun, even if you're just trying to get a tan, will release endorphins which make you feel better. Just make sure you flip.

11. Spend time with good friends.

Because all anyone really needs is some quality time with people that love them. Hanging out with friends is a great way to cheer up while catching up.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
