11 Ways To Make Bad Days Better
Caitlin Joseph

Everyone has a bad day every now and again, and It seems to happen to me a lot more than I anticipate. Having dealt with anxiety my whole life, I know different ways of calming myself down and turning bad situations into positive ones. I've started using these strategies for when i'm having one of those off days:

1. Take a shower.

This one seems odd, but showers always help me to calm down and relaxes me from any anxiety I may have.

2. Meditate.

You can practice deep breathing as well as have time to think and reflect.

3. Sing along to your favorite playlist.

4. Eat at your favorite restaurant.

Comfort food is the best kind of food.

5. Call your best friend or your family.

I don't know about other people, but I quick phone call with my best friend cheers me up instantly.

6. Watch your favorite movie.

7. Treat yourself to your favorite drink or dessert.

8. Make a list of things you're grateful for.

9. Help someone else.

Personally, helping other people not only distracts me from whatever is bothering me but it's also beneficial to others in our communities.

10. Get active.

Personally when i'm at the gym, the only thing on my mind is how much I hate the gym.

11. Take a nap.

This one is my personal favorite. I'll use any excuse to justify taking a nap.

April Ludgate, historically, is a very annoyed person, and she doesn't hide it. Of all the times that I binged and re-binged "Parks and Rec," her attitude relates more and more to me.

To The Cheerful Person On Their Rainy Days, You Are Valid

The world is not always sunshine and rainbows, and you do not have to be, either.

Ask friends of mine to name a quality about me, and one a lot them will point out the fact that I am almost always smiling. I like to laugh and smile -- not to quote Buddy the Elf in April, but smiling is my favorite! It is probably my favorite go-to expression. However, what a lot of people do not see is that I have my down days. I have days when smiling and laughing is a real struggle, or when I have so much on my plate that going out of my way to behappy takes more effort than I have stored in me. Be it a symptom of college and growing up or a facet of life, I cannot always be content.
