11 Ways To Fill The Dog Days Of Summer

It’s finally here... SUMMER.

After the atrocity that was final exams, we are finally rewarded with a three-month break of sun, GT’s, and down time. Maybe your summer is already packed to the brim with activities, but if not, here are 11 things to do this summer!

1. Plan a trip

There is nothing more exciting than planning a trip. It doesn’t have to be a European adventure (although those are the best!). It could be a girls trip to Charleston, or a road trip to the Grand Canyon. Go someplace you’ve always wanted to see, because over summer, you actually have the time to do it!

2. Exercise

Tired of getting on the scale? Or just want to fit into your clothes better? Summer is the perfect time to get in shape because you can actually stick to a workout regime. It’s gorgeous outside, so go ride a bike, hike a mountain, take a 2 mile run, or whatever you need to do to be healthy and enjoy the outdoors.

3. Go to the Beach

The beach is a staple of summer, so no matter where you live, you should find your way to a beach in order to have the summer experience that everyone craves. Sun, sand, and salt water = the perfect recipe for a good summer.

4. Get a job or internship

If you’re looking to make some money or gain some professional experience, apply for a job or internship. Take the initiative and reach out! You never know what connections could help you get an opportunity.

5. Clean your room

This might just be fun for the neurotic people like myself, but I thoroughly enjoy organizing and cleaning out my room, top to bottom, every summer. Sorting through the clothes you don’t wear anymore and donating or selling them (to make room for more clothes obviously), cleaning out your desk, dresser, and whatever you have in your room is a fun way to get organized.

6. Do an exhilarating activity

Maybe you have always wanted to go skydiving, or swim with the manatees, or go zip lining. Find a place where you can do it, and then go! You have time, so do something you’ve always wanted to do.

7. Volunteer

This is a great way to spend your time and give back to your community. There are countless ways to get involved in volunteering whether it’s at your church, the local humane society, or a food bank. It is an extremely rewarding way to spend your time over the summer.

8. Read a book (or 30)

If you love to read like I do, but never find the time during the school year, now is the perfect opportunity to knock out all the books you’ve wanted to read! Find a nice spot outside and leggo.

9. Take Classes Online or Locally

If you’re behind in credits for college, or are just looking to get ahead, you can take classes over the summer. Check to see if the credits at a local university will transfer, or take classes online. This may be a less exciting way to pass time but still a productive way to spend your summer.

10. Catch up with friends

This is the time to just hang out with your friends and make some memories. Spend time with your high school friends, invite your college friends to come visit you, or take a trip and meet in the middle. There are countless ways to spend time with your friends, and summer is the perfect time to do so.

11. Finally, spend time with your family

My family has a family reunion every summer, which is so amazing because we come from all over and get to see our entire wacky and joyous family. Hang out with your parents and your siblings. Visit with your grandparents. Spend some time with your cousins if you can. Summer is the time when you have time to see your family, so make the effort, because it is worth it!

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?

I've been super busy lately with school work, studying, etc. Besides the fact that I do nothing but AP chemistry and AP economics, I constantly think of stupid questions that are almost impossible to answer. So, maybe you could answer them for me, and if not then we can both wonder what the answers to these 15 questions could be.
