Yes, the Cubs won the World Series recently, but it's hard to deny that there's a lot stress in the U.S. right now. With this Tuesday's election having dominated the headlines across the country for the better part of a year, Facebook and Twitter feeds everywhere have been saturated with frustration and anger. Here are a few tidbits and fun facts to help distract you before the results come rolling in on Tuesday night.

1. Pixar just released a really adorable short film called Piper.

There are cute birds with puffy cheeks. I'm sold.

2. The weather in Charlottesville has been lovely recently, perfect for outdoor picnics!

Destress from life for a while by heading to the lawn and taking in the beautiful surroundings.

3. The UVa football team may be a lost cause, but UVa basketball season is just around the corner.

The boys are back, and ready to dominate once again.

4. It's almost time to start getting into the holiday spirit. Actually, break out the sweaters, it IS time.

Your sweaters may not be as extreme as this guy's, but you can still enjoy the holidays with the same glee that he clearly does.

5. Season 4 of Sherlock comes out this January, FINALLY.

And with that, another two-plus year hiatus for season 5 soon begins.

6. All that reading you didn't do because you were watching election-related material? Time to start catching up.

Maybe not the best news to distract you from politics, but it's certainly more productive to catch up on work than it is to wallow in despair over the state of our nation.

7. Those movies you missed at the Virginia Film Festival this weekend will actually be in theaters soon, with multiple showings to accommodate your busy schedule.

There were all sorts of fantastic films shown this weekend, and many of these critically lauded movies will end up in artsy movie theaters around the country around the holidays. When they do, you'll be on break and can actually have time to be artsy.

8. The Chicago Cubs post-World Series victory gathering was the 7th largest gathering in human history.

That's just a fun, wonderful fact. Joy really can bring a massive amount of people together, even in this day and age.

9. There's a delicious free food event happening on Thursday called Taste of Charlottesville!

It's a great way to get a taste of all the restaurants in Charlottesville that you haven't had a chance to eat at yet, or can't afford to eat at regularly.

10. Relish your status as a filthy colonial by watching The Crown on Netflix.

Bow to the Queen. Queen Elizabeth, that is.

11. Take a break from politics to embrace the arts at UVa instead!

There's plenty of fantastic performances coming up to look forward to at UVa, from the Chamber Singers concert, to Drama Department performances, to theatrical performances by student groups. Keep an eye out for artsy Facebook events, and consider taking some time to escape from your political stresses to hear beautiful music or take in some fantastic acting.

There are a lot of events to be positive or productive about in the coming weeks. Don't let the election consume your life, but focus on how you can be happy and make the most of your days.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
