When it comes to travel, I feel like I've seen quite a bit. To give you a background, I've been to Washington State (born and raised), and various areas of Idaho, Oregon, Montana, California, Arizona, North Carolina, Florida, Hawaii, Mexico, London, Italy, Haiti, and all around Greece. These have all been unique and worth a visit, but I also feel they are the "cliche" places to go. I want to see places that no one talks about - not to be different, but to give those places the credit they deserve.
1. Cartegena, Colombia
If you have never seen Romancing the Stone, you're missing out. I love a good romance film, but what stands out is the setting - Cartegena. Colombia has its stereotypes like any other place, but I still think it deserves a chance to be seen.
2. Mauritius
I remember watching the Olympics one year and was stopped by a country I had never heard before, come to find out it's a little island east of Madagascar in the Indian Ocean. Serene, quiet, sandy beaches - count me in.
3. Visby, Sweden
This is a little medieval town,
4. Kakslauttanen Hotel in Finland
Glass igloos and the Northern Lights, need I say more?5. Atlantis Aquaventure Waterpark in Dubai
Let's be real, I'm a kid at heart and this waterpark makes me giddy just thinking about it.
6. Garajonay National Park in the Canary Islands
Think Bridge to Terebithia, but better. It has all the mystical aspects, but there is no sad ending.
7. Tinago Falls in Iligan, Philippines
If you're into the picturesque waterfalls, this should be on your list too.
8. Neuschwanstein Castle in Bavaria, Germany
One day, I will live in this castle. Mark my words.9. The Potala Palace in Lhasa, China
I am a sucker for extravagant architecture and by the photos, I am already obsessed.
10. Chicago
I know this one isn't unusual, but I had to throw it in there because more than likely, it will be my next stop.
11. Ethiopia
Ethiopia has been on my mind since grade school. I don't have a specific spot I want to see, I just want to go.
You can probably tell by now that I'm not one to want to visit the most popular spots, besides Chicago. I would rather have space to not smell the next tourist's armpits. My encouragement to you is to book your next trip to a not-so cliche place!
