Over the years, I’ve been exposed to a fair amount of things that nobody’s ever heard of or didn’t think much about. So I’m here to expose you to things that you need in your life or let you know just how amazing some things are.

1. Madeline Kahn

If you know who Madeline Kahn is, it’s probably because you’ve seen either Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles, or Clue. She’s a comedic genius with a witty sense of humor and a sass master. One of her best performances that nobody ever knows what I’m talking about when I reference it is a beautiful work of art called Mixed Nuts. It is arguably the best Christmas movie ever and hardly anyone knows what it even is. It’s a comedic Holy Grail as well as teaching important life values and really getting at what it means to be together with loved ones. Madeline Kahn is a godsend that was with us for such a short time and deserves to be better known.

2. Mulan

I’m sure many of you have seen Mulan, but I have this film on here more so because I believe it is underrated as film promoting feminist ideals. Everyone always talks about movies like Brave, Tangled, or Frozen when they talk about Disney movies with strong female characters. Mulan was proving women are just as capable as men long before Elsa was even a thought (if you exclude the fact that Frozen was probably loosely based around the Disney movie the Ice Queen). Also, if you couldn’t tell, this is my favorite Disney movie. I could probably go on about underrated Disney movies such as Atlantis and Treasure Planet, but that might be best saved for another article specifically about Disney movies.

3. Porn as a source of comedic entertainment

You all are probably shaking your heads at me for writing this, but porn can be one of the most hilarious forms of media out there. I’m sure we’ve all seen things like video compilations of the ten worst orgasms or really crappy porn like Lemon Stealing Whores or what have you (if you haven’t, you totally should if you need a laugh). Even though it’s not its intended purpose, if porn is bad enough it can be A+ comedy.

4. Animals that are widely considered to be ugly

While I have an Aye-Aye pictured here, there are plenty of animals that are considered ugly that are super cute and deserve more love as a whole. Whether it be hairless cats, star nosed moles, blob fish, or any other type of animal deemed ugly, these animals deserve our love and support because of how awesome they are just for being themselves.

5. The Kardashians

Just kidding. Screw the Kardashians.

6. Music

So, I’m a metalhead and I personally think it’s an underrated genre of music, but the same can be said for almost all genres of music. Various people spouting various generalizations about X style of music because “it’s boring” or “it’s all the same” or something like that. Every style of music has something to offer. You just have to be willing to find it.

7. Any Final Fantasy game that isn’t VII

In 1997, Squaresoft gave birth to Final Fantasy VII. Ever since then, fangirls of the series never fail to bring up in some debate about Final Fantasy games how “Final Fantasy VII was the best and every other game sucks in comparison.” While I myself have not played every Final Fantasy game, I’ve had equally enjoyable experiences playing other Final Fantasy games as well as VII. Someone should probably knock those fangirls off their high horse.

8. Degrees in the humanities

In today’s society, it feels like we’re constantly pressured and told that if we don’t do something in our lives revolving around STEM education, we’ll be failures and end up financially destitute. I as well as many others will tell you that while you may not be rolling in cash, you will be far from a failure. STEM fields explain how life works, the humanities make life worth living.

9. Futurama

Matt Groening’s less appreciated baby, Futurama is a masterful television series. It goes beyond the scope of a standard comedy show, containing dynamic characters, emotions, and subject matters. One minute it’ll have you rolling on the floor, the next you’ll find your heart has been ripped out, shredded in a blender, and then shat upon by Lrrr from Omicron Persei 8. It definitely deserves more than the “shut up and take my money” memes.

10. Pictochat

The Nintendo DS, while a great gaming device, had an even greater feature with it. That feature was pictochat. This feature let you casually chat and draw things with your friends, and it was AMAZING! I’m sure many of us can remember spending hours just doodling random stuff or trying to make the entire chat black. This is definitely one of those moments where “if you remember this you had a great childhood” memes are perfect.

11. The everyday things we take for granted

This is mildly cliché, but it’s worth mentioning. While this isn’t severely underrated, it’s definitely something that comes and goes in terms of relevance in our lives as we get swept in all the other mess of things going on. These things are underrated in the sense that sometimes we forget how meaningful and important they can be. Whether it be food, clean water, a loving family and friends, or the beauty of a sunset, this world has so much to offer.

I'm serious

There are tons of unisex names that are popular: Taylor, Alex, Bailey, etc. There are also numerous names that are used for both sexes, but they’re not seen as “unisex” yet. People are slowly becoming accustomed to the dual use of these names, but for the most part, in their minds they associate certain names with certain sexes. And that leaves those of us with these names in many awkward situations.

pale girl

Everyone has insecurities, that's just a fact. You didn't ask to be born this way. You didn't ask to inherit the one trait no one else in your family has. And you definitely didn't ask to be this ghostly white. But as soon as you've learned to live with it for a while (less wrinkles later on in life, right? right???) someone has to ruin it for you. They have to flaunt they're perfectly tanned body from Spring Break and hold their sun-kissed skin against yours. But I've had enough... here are the things that perpetually pale individuals are tired of hearing.
