Finals week brings on tears, sweat, all-nighters and a wide range of emotions. All classes demand time and effort, so an entire week of studying and writing papers and putting everything into schoolwork can stress students out. They deserve a chance to let loose and calm themselves down.

1. Take a nap.

Set your alarm, and don't sleep for too long! You have work to do!

2. Watch one (yes, ONE) episode of your favorite show.

Don't get into the Netflix loop. Press cancel before your 15 seconds are up!

3. Try meditating.

Here is a page with simple steps on how to meditate.

4. Grab coffee with a friend and talk about anything but schoolwork for half an hour.

I promise, you can take the time away from organic chemistry to catch up with your classmates during this stressful time.

5. Go to a animal shelter and pet some puppies.

Here are some local shelters in the area:

6. Go to Strom or Blatt and sweat.

Working out releases endorphins, which makes you happier and gives you more energy. So you're gaining time (energy) by using study time to go to the gym.

7. Or take a yoga class at Strom.

Here are the times for the group classes this fall.

8. Call someone who will give you some perspective.

Your mom, a sibling, or a mentor can help you understand that this week will not ruin your life.

9. Make a list of everything you have to do, so you aren't overwhelmed.

Seeing all the tasks you have to complete helps to make your plate look less full.

10. Treat yo'self to a holiday drink at the Bookstore Starbucks in Russell House.

And use your new surroundings to get some studying done!

11. Make sure your room is clean. It will help you to focus.

A tidy room makes for a tidy mind.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads.
