Every day I am encountered by men who have the worst manners I have ever seen. It has encouraged me to write tips on how to be a gentleman so here ya go..

1. Open the door for women.

This is a huge tip! Every man should be the one to open the door for a lady, from opening one at the grocery store to opening the car door on a date. This is also a huge first impression on yourself as well.

2. Pay for dinner when on a date.

I feel like most men know this already, but it is always a good reminder. Never ask a girl on a date and not pay for dinner. Nine times out of ten, you will not get another date with that person if you don't pay for her dinner.

3. Ask the parents permission before taking someone out on a date.

I mean unless the person lives on their own you don't really have to do this one. But, If you are dating someone who lives at home, ask the parents first. This will leave a great impression on them, and it will make them feel like their daughter will be safe with you.

4. Don't cuss in front of women.

Unless you want to leave a bad impression on a girl, then don't cuss. Save that for when you are with your bros.

5. After a breakup, treat the girl the same way you did before you dated her.

I can't tell you how many times I have heard of a guy being ugly to a girl after a breakup. Yes, it goes both ways, but we all know how girls are, so be the bigger person. No matter how y'all ended, be respectful.

6. Don't tell a girl's business to everyone.

Yes, we all know how girls gossip, but guys do it just enough. When a girl tells you something no one really knows, she is confiding in you because she trusts you. Don't ruin that trust.

7. Don't be afraid to compliment women.

Hint: Girls like to be complimented. If you really like a girl, compliment her! It will leave a lasting impression on you. Trust me, girls remember everything. Even simple compliments.

8. Walk on the left side of the sidewalk when walking with a woman.

This was real big in the 1800s when they rode in buggies. The man would walk on the left side of the road, so the women wouldn't get dirty. It still applies today, but different meaning. You're supposed to walk on the left side because it is easy for a girl to get snatched.

9. Treat women the same way you would treat your mom.

Always treat your woman right. If you say something that you wouldn't say to your mom, then it isn't right for you to say it to another woman.

10. When a lady comes in a room, stand up.

When a lady walks in a room, you are supposed to stand up and greet her. I mean unless it is at a huge event, don't worry about it. But, if you are in a room with a few people and a woman walks in, stand up and greet her.

11. Don't wear a hat inside a building.

No matter where you are if you are wearing a hat and you walk into a building, take it off. I have a guy in my biology class who does this every day for class, and all my respect goes to him!

Everyone who is in college right now, or has ever been, knows the struggle of pulling in the strings at the last second. It seems impossible, and you have to do a LOT of things in order to assure your future for the next semester.

April Ludgate, historically, is a very annoyed person, and she doesn't hide it. Of all the times that I binged and re-binged "Parks and Rec," her attitude relates more and more to me.

The world is not always sunshine and rainbows, and you do not have to be, either.

Ask friends of mine to name a quality about me, and one a lot them will point out the fact that I am almost always smiling. I like to laugh and smile -- not to quote Buddy the Elf in April, but smiling is my favorite! It is probably my favorite go-to expression. However, what a lot of people do not see is that I have my down days. I have days when smiling and laughing is a real struggle, or when I have so much on my plate that going out of my way to behappy takes more effort than I have stored in me. Be it a symptom of college and growing up or a facet of life, I cannot always be content.

Amidst my hectic college career, I always find time for one thing, even on the busiest weeks: Parks and Recreation. This show has made me laugh and has made me cry, but most of all I have related to this show more than I would like to admit.

April Ludgate from Parks and Recreation is notorious for her "I don't care" attitude. She speaks her mind without caring what anyone thinks of her. Fans love her because she isn't afraid to be herself. April can seem cold and negative, but she's really just fearless and strong-minded. And despite her sometimes harsh words, April truly cares about the people she's closest to. These are all reasons she is the epitome of a college student. April complains whenever she has to do any kind of work, but ends up doing the work anyway. April Ludgate is the ultimate college student spirit animal.
