Eeyore is one of the most beloved characters to come out of the Hundred Acre Woods. He'll thank you if you notice him, and is one to often lose a tail. He has extremely low expectations, which leads to a melancholy disposition, but also moments of sheer joy when he sees the little things in life no one else does. After reading A.A. Mile’s “Winnie-the-Pooh” and “The House at Pooh Corner” one thing becomes clear; taken out of context Eeyore can sound exactly like a college student.
1. When things are going terrible, but you’re trying really hard to remain optimistic
“Hallo, Eeyore,” said Christopher Robin, as he opened the door and came out. “How are you?”
“It’s snowing still,” said Eeyore gloomily.
“So it is.”
“And freezing.”
“Is it?”
“Yes,” said Eeyore. “However,” he said, brightening up a little, “we haven’t had an earthquake lately.”
2. When your friends are talking about the future and you just figure that you’re okay with never paying off your loans
“After all, we can’t all have houses.”
3. When you somehow did really well on an assignment without opening the book
“It just shows what can be done by taking a little trouble,” said Eeyore. “Do you see, Pooh? Do you see, Piglet? Brains first and then Hard Work.”
4. When you’re burnt out and can’t remember how it used to feel to have motivation
“And how are you?” said Winnie-the-Pooh.
Eeyore shook his head from side to side.
“Not very much how,” he said. “I don’t seem to have felt at all how for a long time.”
5. When you get ready frustrated at your project and just destroy it like Eeyore did with the letter “A” made with sticks
“Clever!” said Eeyore scornfully, putting a foot heavily on his three sticks. “Education!” said Eeyore bitterly, jumping on his six sticks. “What is Learning?” asking Eeyore as he kicked his twelve sticks into the air.
6. When the universe is making things really tough, but you stop asking “why me?”
“But Eeyore,” said Pooh, “was it a Joke, or an Accident? I mean—”
“I didn’t stop to ask, Pooh. Even at the very bottom of the river I didn’t stop to say to myself, ‘Is this a Hearty Joke, or is it the Merest Accident?’ I just floated to the surface, and said to myself, ‘It’s wet.’ If you know what I mean.”
7. When you’ve been working nonstop in your dorm and you’re a little hurt you haven’t seen any friends in a while
“It’s your fault, Eeyore. You’ve never been to see any of us. You just stay here in this one corner of the Forest waiting for the others to come to you. Why don’t you go to them sometimes?”
Eeyore was silent for a little while, thinking.
“There may be something in what you say, Rabbit,” he said at last. “I must move about more I must come and go.”
8. When you’re trying to extend the amount of time it takes to give your oral presentation, so you’ll get full credit
He took a piece of paper from behind his ear, and unfolded it. “Nobody knows anything about this,” he went on. “This is a Surprise.” He coughed in an important way, and began again: “What-nots and Etcetras, before I begin, or perhaps I should say, before I end, I have a piece of Poetry to read to you. Hitherto—hitherto—a long word meaning—well, you’ll see what it means directly—hitherto, as I was saying…”
9. When you have to mention the awful things about this semester but are trying to not complain because you rarely see your friends and you want them to remember how pleasant you used to be
"I don't want to mention it, but I just mention it. I don't want to complain but there it is."
10. When college makes you question if you ever liked school or learning in the first place, or even your love of stationary
But Eeyore was saying to himself, “This writing business. Pencils and what-not. Over-rated, if you ask me. Silly stuff. Nothing in it.”
11. When everything is terrible, so you try to appreciate the little things in life
“Look, Piglet!”
And as Piglet looked sorrowfully round, Eeyore picked the balloon up with his teeth, and placed it carefully in the pot; picked it out and put it on the ground; and then picked it up again and put it carefully back.
“So it does!” said Pooh. “It goes in!”
“So it does!” said Piglet. “And it comes out!”
“Doesn’t it?” said Eeyore. “It goes in and out like anything.”
“I’m very glad,” said Pooh happily, “that I thought of giving you a Useful Pot to put things in.”
“I’m very glad,” said Piglet happily, “that I thought of giving you Something to put in a Useful Pot.”
But Eeyore wasn’t listening. He was taking the balloon out, and putting it back in again, as happy as could be….
