" Harry Potter" fans know that the HP series was not only a great form of entertainment but a story that taught us as readers (nearly exclusively through the sage wisdom of Albus Dumbledore) important lessons on love, life, friendship and death as we grew up with Harry. However, possibly one of the most potent lessons Dumbledore has taught us as a generation is how how to embrace the concept of death, bravely as part of life. Here are a few of my favorite and most enlightening Dumbledore quotes about life and death.
1. “Do not pity the dead, Harry. Pity the living, and, above all those who live without love” —"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows"
2. “After all, To the well-organized mind, death is but the next great adventure” — "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone"
3. “Indeed, your failure to understand that there are things much worse than death has always been your greatest weakness” — "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix"
4. “It is the unknown we fear when we look upon death and darkness, nothing more” — "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince"
5. “It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live” — "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone"
6. “You think the dead we loved ever truly leave us? You think that we don’t recall them more clearly than ever in times of great trouble? Your father is alive in you, Harry, and shows himself plainly when you have need of him” — "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban"
7. “Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light” — "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban"
8. “We must try not to sink beneath our anguish, Harry, but battle on” — "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince"
9. “When you have seen as much of life as I have, you will not underestimate the power of obsessive love” —Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince"
10. "To have been loved so deeply, even though the person who loves us is gone, will give us some protection forever"— "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone"
And lastly, in memoriam of the late Alan Rickman:
11. “Always” — "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows"
