Although Stephen King was the genius who wrote the book about a man who travels back to 1960 with a mission to save the assassination of JFK, it's a totally different ball game watching it on your own TV. If you've already seen this edge-of-your-chair, sci-fi, romance, thriller, psychotic show, 11.22.63, then you most likely had these same thoughts racing through your mind that I did when watching the 8-part Hulu special.
1. "Who is Harry?"
Harry Dunning. Not the main character, but he starts the show with his themed paper, "The Day That Changed My Life" assigned by his adult night school teacher, Mr. Jake Epping, who's also the main character. "It was not a day, but a night..". Have no fear, or actually have a lot of fear when you'll soon be taken back in time during the show to see the night that changed Harry and his family forever.2. "How does Al get sick so fast?"
One minute he's serving Jake, the next he's coughing up blood. How? Why? We soon learn from Al that 2 years spent in the past is equivalent to 2 minutes passing by in the present world. Freaky, I know.3. "Can this happen to me already?"
Literally my initial question. I keep hoping every time I open my basement door that it takes me back in time. Still waiting...
4. "I'm officially freaked out by the 'you're not suppose to be here' guy".
We never learn his name, and only get a glimpse of his story about why he traveled back to the past. However, he manages to show up throughout the show and always says to Jake, "you're not suppose to be here".
5. "I want to be Sadie Dunhill".
In a world full of Kardashian's, be a Sadie Dunhill (or a Jacqueline Kennedy for that matter). Maybe not in the 60's, but I would kill to be a modern day Sadie Dunhill or Jackie O.6. "Bill?"
We have a love-hate relationship with Bill. He doesn't understand that Jake cannot go back to save Clara, but he is willing to help Jake save the assassination.7. "Speak louder American, not softer Russian!"
Between Lee Harvey Oswald and George the two seem to always be speaking Russian and it's as if when you're watching these parts of the show a pin cannot even drop otherwise you'll miss the whole conversation, like you can even understand it in the first place!8. "DON'T KILL THE COW! DON'T KILL THE COW!"
Frank Dunning is an ass. Enough said. When watching those nail-biting parts it's crucial to remember that it is taken place in the 60's and meat packing industries were a thing. I think Frank gets confused between meat packing animals and humans, just me?9. "Jake needs to kill Johnny already!"
As we sit there in fury watching what Johnny has already done to Sadie, all we can think is "don't drink what he gave you, Jake!" and "kill him already!".10. "Is anyone going to kill Lee Harvey Oswald before Jack Ruby does?"
Now we start thinking, "Will he ever change the past or will it stay the same?"
11. "I know Lee was away serving but come on, no one picks up a heavy accent that fast".
His mother has a thick southern accent, and he wasn't in Russia for that long...
12. "What happens to Jack Ruby?!"
Oswald never dies, and wait - where is Jack Ruby in the midst of all of this?
Before ever watching this series I never really gave the whole Kennedy assassination much thought. After learning all of the little details and even some of the conspiracy theories from this fictional show I found myself really loving the history about the whole situation. I loved this so much I had to buy the book! Stephen King easily became a top author of mine. You can buy the book here if you're as interested in this piece of history as I am. OR just binge watch the 8-part series event on Hulu one day!
