11 Thoughts We All Have About Winter Approaching
Mackenzie Warren

A season not many people like is quickly approaching. Sadly, this is a depressing time for almost everyone: cold, snow, freezing cars, no sun, shovels, and so much more. Winter is a season not many people are so excited over. Here are 10 thoughts people typically have when they know is coming.

1. SNOW DAYS

We all get our hopes up for it. A day of no school because of snow? It's probably the only time we will ever be grateful for it. Snow days can pose a lot of fun: sledding, hot chocolate, and most importantly, a day to spend in your bed with Netflix and pizza.

2. Why do I have to get into a frozen car?

If anyone is like me, they hate cold cars. I feel like the heat never turns on quickly enough in my car, and I sit like an ice cube until I am at my final destination. And then I have to get back out into the cold.

3. Shoveling should just not exist

Any other person out there hate the idea of having to shovel? I personally just pawn it off on everyone else, because I can't stand either being cold and outside, or being a slave to Mother Nature.

4. What Netflix series should I start that will last me all day?

Like I said before, a day with no school is a day for Netflix, so what show should people watch that will last them all day? THE STRUGGLE IS REAL. I can't even decide what to watch when I get a weekend off, let alone something for a full day. Decide wisely, everyone.

5. If I have to go to class, why must I walk around in the snow?

Even being a commuter, I dread this. Walking in the snow and cold is the worst feeling ever' unless you're cold-blooded, then you're fine. Your shoes get wet, your feet get cold, the wind blows in your face, and your nose runs. It's all-around brutal.

6. How do I even dress these days?

At Marywood, the temperature is bi-polar and we are all aware. The Learning Commons goes from freezing to hot every day and the LAC is always hot (like, ALWAYS), so do you dress to stay warm, or do you dress accordingly to where your classes are? You'll either burn to death or you'll freeze.

7. Is this long, awful season over?

Many of us are probably hoping that winter won't be long this year, that it'll be quick, and not painful. We all imagine the summer, the sun, the beach, walking around in shorts, all of that. So, it wouldn't be a surprise if no one wants winter.

8. At least the holidays are coming up!

Everyone loves the holiday season, so when winter comes, it's almost a bittersweet moment. Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's and so forth; they'll always cause excitement!

9. If I eat ice cream I'll freeze to death.

I know my favorite treat during anytime of the year is ice cream, but in the winter, I have a love-hate relationship with it. It's so cold to eat, but so satisfying. I can't seem to make up my mind when to eat it, and I know I'm definitely not the only one.

10.It's really beautiful to see the snow on the trees this time of year.

For anyone who loves to take pictures, or anyone who appreciates beauty, you'll all agree with me that in NEPA and Scranton, it looks beautiful when the snow covers the trees. It's just a bright, refreshing sight to the dull winter.

11. I can drink hot chocolate and coffee all day, every day, and be warm.

In the summer I do not like hot drinks. I get sweaty drinking them, so the winter is my time to absorb all the hot drinks in the world and not give a care. My winter go-to is hot chocolate, it's just the perfect topper to a cold day.

Now that Halloween is over, it's time to focus on the Holiday Season. Don't get me wrong, I think Thanksgiving is great and can't wait for it, but nothing gives me greater joy than watching Freeform's 25 Days of Christmas, lighting peppermint scented candles, decking the halls, and baking gingerbread cookies. So while we approach the greatest time of the year, let's watch the 15 best Christmas movies of all time.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
