11 Things You Do When You Are The “Mother” To Your Friends

Some people never want to grow up, while others have had maternal instincts peeking through for years. It’s time to admit it: you’re the mother figure to all of your friends, and here are 11 things you do to prove it.

1. When they are upset, it makes you upset. You hate to see them sad and you try to do anything you can to make them feel better.

2. When you go out, you don’t drink as much as they do because you know they are going to need someone to take care of them later.

3. You love making breakfast/dinner for them on a normal basis while you ask them about their classes that day.

4. You carry first aid supplies in your purse- Bandages, Tylenol, tissues, and anything else that you think your friends could possibly need at any given moment.

5. You carry extra tampons- Even if your friends don’t look at you as a mother figure, this is just a good habit to get into. You never know when your friend may have an emergency and you’ll be there to have her back!

6. You take care of them when they are sick without even worrying that whatever they have may be severely contagious.

7. You won’t drive your friends around unless they are wearing their seat belts. Safety first!

8. Even after you finally convince them to buckle up, you still throw your arm out in front of whoever is in your passenger seat if you hit the brakes too hard. It’s something your mom has always done, and you just do it out of maternal habit.

9. Someone says “thanks mom” or “okay mom” to you at least twice a day, and it doesn’t bother you one bit.

10. Your friends tease you for how much you LOVE grocery shopping. Everything about it. Right down to sharing recipes with the nice older lady in front of you in the check out line.

11. If they ever needed anything, you would be the first person they would call because your friends know you’ve got their backs almost as much as their real moms do.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
