Maybe you've been itching to get back to UR the second you left in May, or maybe you're like me and have really been enjoying being at home this summer. But it's at that point where we're all really, really excited to get back to Richmond this week and start the new year. With people getting to campus early for orientation and other events, I think everyone's ready to see our campus again.
1. D-Hall, and more specifically, mozzarella sticks from D-hall. | Now hear me out on this. I love having home cooked meals and good foods at home and I know that at school, I wish I had more of this, but you've gotta admit that there's something about being able to have literally whatever you want to eat and it most likely being available in d-hall. No time in waiting for meals and easily available, unlimited mozzarella sticks on the right day.
2. Running into familiar faces and friends. | Sometimes I dread constantly running into people I know, but there's something to be said about always being able to see someone you know and enjoy on a daily basis. At home, it's simple to stay inside and not see anyone, but at school, you're constantly seeing people.
3. Not having to drive everywhere. | I love driving and all, but the constant driving situation and getting places based on traffic, figuring out who's driving, and the fact that you feel like you have to get into a car to do anything is a little much at home, now that I know how nice it is to just walk places.
4. My stuff staying where it is. | Why can't my sister stop taking clothes out of my room?! Who is using all of my nice conditioner?! Why were my last cookies eaten??? Unless you have an absolutely crazy roommate, most of your stuff stays where it is and there's privacy. Because hey, my conditioner is some good stuff and I can't be wasting that.
5. The library and gym staying open so much later. | Now, it's not like I'm in need of a library a lot this summer, but the times I've needed to go and it's been closed at 6:01 were frustrating. And don't get me started on the gym-- don't they know the number of people that might like to work out past 9:30? There's just something about the energy of the library being open all night and the gym being open until midnight.
6. Eating so many meals with friends and being able to see friends within minutes. | There's something simple and nice about the fact that you get to see the people you care about so easily because you live right next to them.
7. Wearing fun themed clothes. | Oh, it's not appropriate to wear fun neon colors out in public here?! I miss being obnoxious with costumes and themes and going all out. Because hey, at Richmond, you go big or go home.
8. DINING DOLLARS. | Whatever, so many of us ran out of them and the prices are a little higher, but I'm actually so excited to be able to have nice coffee and not use my debit card and to get anything I need from ETC without having to worry.
9. Parents not being overbearing. | Yeah, yeah, I know they love me and they just care about me and want the best for me, but we can all agree that at school, it's so much more freeing to not feel like you have to report to where you are and who you're with at all times.
10. Every moment being Insta-worthy. | Umm, have you seen our campus? BEAU-TI-FUL. It constantly cheers me up to see such a pretty place I get to live at.
11. Being surrounded by like-minded people. | People at Richmond are smart and ambitious, something I didn't realize lacked so much at home. I love knowing that my classmates are out for the best and they push me to do better in my life.
See all y'all Spiders soon.
