11 Things I Want To Do in 2017

The New Year usually brings resolutions among many people who wish to improve himself from the year before. Typical resolutions are to go back to the gym, to save money, or something else mundane. This year, I wanted to make a list of things I want to accomplish throughout the next 12 months. Limiting myself to one thing to be held accountable for all year seemed too boring. I wanted to do something more exciting and actually try to achieve various things that I have talked about or thought of doing. So, here’s to 2017 and everything it has to offer.

  1. Read a new book series

I love to read but sometimes life gets in the way and I don’t get to do it as often as I would like. So, this year I plan on reading and completing A Song of Ice and Fire, also known as the Game of Thronesbooks! I know these books are super long and tedious but I am ready to take on the challenge and to relive all of my favorite parts from the show!

2. Travel to a new place

I am a Disney Addict. There is no doubt about it! I travel to Florida very often to visit Mickey and friends! This year, I want to visit somewhere beyond the walls of the 4 Disney parks

3. Do my best in school

School, no matter what, should be the most important thing in my life. During 2017 I want to make sure I’m always putting forth my best effort and doing that extra bit of studying in order to be successful!

4. Take up a new hobby

I have many, many, hobbies. But, I am a firm believer in always trying new things! This year, I plan on taking up yoga. I have never done yoga in the slightest before, so this year I am very excited to try something new!

5. Walk my dog more often

There really isn’t anything in the world that I love more than my dog. I know that sometimes I make excuses, like it being too cold, too hot, or I’m too busy, but I really should make an effort to walk my dog more. A happy pup makes for a happy life!

6. Relax more

Too often life gets super busy and stressful. Homework, work, commitments, it all can become a bit much. In 2017, I want to put aside more “me” time to relax. I can sit down and read a good book, or catch up on my Netflix shows, without feeling guilty that I’m lacking at my school work!

7. Take more pictures

I love to take pictures! From my phone, GoPro, and my Nikon camera I do spend a lot of time behind the lens. This year, not only do I plan on taking more pictures, but I want to actually get them developed and maybe put them in a scrapbook that I can look back at down the road.

8. See a Broadway show

It has been a few years since I’ve seen my last Broadway show. Going to see a Broadway show is one of my favorite experiences; not much compares to it! I want to make an effort to see Aladdin or maybe Anastasia on Broadway this year!

9. Treat yo' self

Get the gel manicure. Buy the new shoes. Take that trip to Ulta. Why not?

10. Unplug every once in awhile

Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram takes up way too much of my time! Although I believe there are some positive aspects to social media, I want to unplug more in 2017! The tweet, the status, and the photo can be posted later- I want to live in the now.

11. Live a happier life

Most importantly, I want to be happy this year. Life can easily be clouded by the negative, but I want to focus this year on the positive. 2017 will be too short to be anything other than happy.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
