11 Things You NEED To Do In Copenhagen

After being in Copenhagen for three weeks, I love to consider myself a local. I got a bike to participate in that aspect of Danish Culture and I have seen my visiting host family to get an inside perspective on Danish life. There is still so much I need to see and explore in the place I call home for the next few months. Here are a few of the things I have done/seen (and still wish to do/see).

1. First stop: Nyhavn!

This is the row of beautiful colored houses featured in essentially every picture of Copenhagen. Here you have cute restaurants, coffee shops, and of course, amazing photo opportunities.

2. Trampolines on the Canal

This is one of my favorite things about Copenhagen. The trampolines are built in the ground and feature a picturesque view of the canal in the background.

3. Go to a coffee shop

The Danes are my kind of people because there is coffee EVERYWHERE. There are so many coffee shops to choose from and I can promise you will not be disappointed wherever you go. Take some time to practice hygge with some friends here and live in the moment.

4. Amalienborg Palace

This is home to the Queen and Prince. If the flags are up they are home so look out for that. Also try to stay for the changing of the guards which is super interesting.

5. Kastellet

This is a fortress with many running trails, picnic spots, and more photo opportunities. Go up to the top trails and you have a great view of the surrounding area. The Little Mermaid Statue is also next to Kastellet so visit that as well!

6. Rosenborg Castle

This castle is surrounded by vast gardens and a large park. Here you find endless grass space with fountains, flowers, and a beautiful peaceful spot to enjoy other's company.

7. Botanical Gardens

This has to be straight out of a fairytale. Here you will find white bridges over ponds of water covered in lily pads, butterfly gardens, and endless willow trees and flowers. Lay down on the grass look up and all of your problems will go away (not really, but it feels like it).

8. The Glass Market

Gelato, coffee, acai bowls, baguettes, smorrebrod, salad. You name it and the glass market probably has it. Indulge in some good eats and great pictures!!

9. Tivoli

This smaller, more enchanting version of Disneyland is a fan favorite of tourists and danes alike. Walk around and seek some thrills!

10. Go on a Go Boat

Bring friends, wine, and a feast on this self driven and self guided boat in the canal. Enjoy friends, food, and fun!

11. The top of Church of Our Savior

You will get the best panoramic views of the city here and amazing pictures to cherish. I haven't been here yet, but it looks AMAZING!

There are still many more cultural experiences to participate in and places to see, but these are a few of mine and my friends favorites so far.

When I was learning how to talk, I was taught both Portuguese and English at the same time. In elementary school, I started taking mandatory Spanish classes, which I did well in because of my knowledge of Portuguese. Then in high school, on top of taking Spanish, I also started taking French. Now, in college, already fluent in English and Portuguese, I'm in the process of becoming fluent in Spanish, and I have a standard high school level understanding of French.

I am without a doubt one of those people who refuses to start decorating for Christmas or listen to Christmas music until after Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, Thanksgiving has become an underrated holiday over the years. You barely see any Thanksgiving decorations in stores; it's like they skip right from Halloween to Christmas.

Some universities only get two or three days off for Thanksgiving break. Or, if your university is like mine, you get the whole week off go go home. A whole week off is a long time. I'm not complaining, because I'd rather have a whole week off than three days, but there is a lot of down time. Here are some ideas as to what you can do to get the most out of your Thanksgiving break.

It's that time of year again- Thanksgiving Break is finally approaching. For college students everywhere, Thanksgiving is a time to relax and not really worry about homework (well, depending on what major you're in).
