11 Things To Do When You're Home Sick

There is nothing worse than catching a bug that leaves you stuck home for days on end. However, your time at home does not have to be marked with boring days and painful nights. Instead, take advantage of the fact that you have no obligations and nurse yourself back to health. Here are 11 simple things to do when you’re home sick that are sure to boost your mood:

1. Set up your nest.

Every person who’s home sick needs a nest – a home base that has all of the necessities. Whether it’s your favorite couch corner or simply your bed, make sure you stock up on everything you may need while you’re stuck at home. You can never have too many tissues!

2. Have a movie marathon.

There is no better time to plant yourself in front of the TV and enjoy an endless stream of movies. Re-watch personal favorites and throw some new ones into the mix. You will not ever be bored on a day like this.

3. Surf the web.

Just because you can’t leave the house, doesn’t mean you can’t get things done. Catch up on your Facebook newsfeed, read an online newspaper, do a little shopping – be productive without even having to get out of bed!

4. Read a good book.

With the chaos of everyday life, it is almost impossible to find time to dedicate to reading a book for fun. Take advantage of your time at home and read that book you’ve been dying to try but haven’t found the time for. You may surprise yourself with how much you enjoy recreational reading.

5. Take a bath.

Baths are the ultimate healers. Not only are they insanely relaxing, but they will clear your sinuses right up! Treat yourself to hot bath when you need a little extra boost. You’ve earned it.

6. Cuddle with your pet.

There is no one like your pet to cheer you up when you’re feeling less than your best. They can sense when you are down and know exactly what to do to get you smiling. Curl up on the couch and let them keep you company when you’re feeling alone.

7. Nourish yourself.

Although you may not feel hungry, it’s more important now than ever to fill your body with the right food. Enjoy a nice, hot bowl of chicken noodle soup – the ultimate cold remedy – as you nurse yourself back to health.

8. Take a stroll down memory lane.

Nothing brings a bigger smile to your face than looking through old photo albums or yearbooks. Fill your mind with positive memories rather than dwelling on your current state.

9. Make a feel-good playlist.

Music has a way of lifting spirits no matter the mood. Put in your headphones and listen to your favorite songs on repeat. You are sure to feel more hopeful and positive in no time.

10. Get some fresh air.

Sitting cooped up in a house all day can leave you feeling confined and restless. Although you may not be ready to hit the town just yet, it’s never a bad idea to take your activities outside – even if it’s only for a few minutes. The change of scenery will help recharge your body and your mind during these difficult days.

11. Sleep the day away.

When all else fails, don’t hesitate to give your body exactly what it needs – rest. Take a nap or simply close your eyes and let your mind wander. When relaxed, your body has the best chance of working towards recovery.

It is that time of year again. Christmastime. It is one of my favorite seasons for a myriad of reasons. Here are just a few reasons why I love Christmas. This list is in no order of importance.

1. The Christmas decorations

I am that person who will decorate directly after Thanksgiving is over. This year, my roommates and I put the tree up in our apartment before we even left for Thanksgiving break. It is a great stress reliever for me to just sit in my living room and work on the huge amount of work I have before the semester is over.

Writing a paper is never fun and is rarely rewarding. The writer's block, the page requirement, be specific, but don’t summarize, make sure you fixed any grammatical errors, did you even use spellcheck? and analyze, analyze, analyze.

Papers can be a major pain. They take up so much time and effort that by the end of the process you hate yourself and you hate the professor for making life so difficult. Questions of your existence start roaming in your mind. Am I even cut out for college if I can’t write a single paper? Am I even capable of taking care of myself if I lack the energy to open my laptop and start typing?
