Happy Spring Break!

11 Things to Do Over Spring Break

Spring Break. It's the college break that students look forward to the most because when we get back from break, there are 7 weeks and then we're home free for the summer. Some kids spend their spring breaks on the sandy beaches of Florida, Mexico, or an island somewhere off the coast of Florida, going absolutely wild and having the time of their lives. Other kids may spend their breaks going on a service trip, maybe to a lesser developed state in America or to a third world country. If you're like me, you will spend your spring break at home, sleeping 12/24 hours of the day. If you want to make the most of your stay at home break, here are 11 things you can do to make this break a good one!

1. Take a road trip

It can be somewhere close by or a completely different state, but it would be kind of fun to just drive somewhere for a day. Go with your parents (if they can), your siblings (if they can) or take a friend and go. And if you really just want to get away-you can always go on your own!

2. Start a new show on Netflix.

Go for something you'd never consider. You never know, it may surprise you!

3. Volunteer

There's no better way to spend time and do good for the community by volunteering. You can volunteer coach, work at a local hospital...the list goes on and on!

4. Read a book

In today's world, most of us would rather watch Netflix or listen to a Podcast than read a book. And when we do have to read a book, you probably read the Sparknotes and if there isn't Sparknotes, then you aren't reading at all. So, pick up a book that you may actually want to read, and read it cover to cover. (Twice, if you really love it.)

5. Sleep.

Don't know why this one isn't first on my list, but it's probably my favorite one. College is hard, so you have every right to sleep for over half the day. And you should do it too.

6. Learn to cook something new.

Okay, so I can't really cook much besides like pasta and toast (if that counts), and I can make a sandwich. But anything beyond that? Nope. Take this week to learn how to make your favorite food, or even just to make or bake something new and fun that you can make for your friends when you get back to school!

7. Take a workout class.

I really dislike working out. I make myself do it (sometimes), but I really dislike it. Therefore, I'm not sure why I decided to take a Barre class, but when I tried my first one, I fell in love. It didn't seem like working out, but I knew that I was (because I could never move after each class). Try taking an exercise class because you may fall in love and soon be more fit than ever.

8. Visit your high school.

If you're like me, you're on a spring break that's super early and none of your friends from other schools have this break. So take the time to go back and visit your old high school, see some of your younger friends, and visit some of the teachers who gave you the best advice and helped you to get where you are today.

9. Do something artistic or creative.

I'm not very creative and I got a B in freshman year (of high school) studio art, so my art skills are clearly sub-par. But taking a pottery class or attempting to scrapbook could be super fun and take up just enough time that you can attempt to make something, but can give up when you get frustrated.

10. Make some money!

By babysitting or working at your old ice cream shop for just a week (if they allow you to), you can make some pocket money which will allow you to buy fun things-like Chipotle and clothes once you get back to school!

11. Simply just relax and enjoy.

This is one of your last breaks before summer - where you may be working or may have a serious internship. So enjoy this week off, spend some time just relaxing and hanging out with your family and have fun in any way you can. It doesn't have to be a crazy break, but you can still have fun and relax all the same.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
