Since St. Patrick's Day is right around the corner, and not all of us here are 21, I wanted to get creative and think about what I could do on St. Patrick’s Day that did not involve alcohol. While this task may seem difficult, I came up with 11 things that every minor could do on this alcohol-filled holiday.
Here’s what I came up with:
1. Pull pranks on your friends.
My favorite that comes to mind is one where you sneak red hair dye into their bottle of shampoo. Bonus points if your friends are already blonde.
2. Wear as much green as possible on your body.
For instance, start with a basic green shirt and maybe a tutu. Then get crazy and add green stockings, green shoes, green face paint and then a red wig. Why, you ask? Because it’s festive. Besides, this prevents you from getting pinched.
3. Attend a parade and watch some Irish Dancers.
Savannah, GA is famous for an amazing St. Patrick's Day Parade.
4.Put bags of gold coins out for random people to find. Then watch them be disappointed all over again that it’s off-brand milk chocolate.
5. Search through a meadow and actually find a four leaf clover.
This might take a while, but hopefully you will have access to that irish good luck.
6. Once you find a four leaf clover, use that clover to make a wish.
7. Wish you were 21 or older.
8. Learn what St. Patrick used the three leaf clover to explain. (Hint: it involves Christianity.)
9. Make it someone else’s lucky day!
Flip pennies onto their heads, offer lucky charms cereal to someone else or leave a dollar in someone’s coat pocket (just make sure you’re stealthy and not creepy).
10. Celebrate with a feast!
Try new Irish foods and expand your taste buds. Or just try to eat every form of potato.
11. Do your homework, because St. Patrick’s Day is on a Thursday this year, and finals are only a few weeks away.
Even though St. Patrick's Day in America is generally a holiday filled with alcohol, there are plenty of things you can do if you are not 21. If you are 21, enjoy the holiday and drink responsibly.
