11 Things To Do In Western Massachusetts This Summer

You don't need to travel outside Western Massachusetts to have fun. Take a 'staycation' this summer.

If you're from Western Mass, you know how bored it can tend to feel. Luckily for you, I'm here to share with you 11 different things to do right here in Western Mass this summer. There's something for everyone on this list!

1. Go for a hike

We are lucky to be surrounded by mountains with a trail for everyone! Whether you're a beginner or an experienced hiker, this is the perfect activity to do with friends this summer! Here're some different hikes to try: Mt. Holyoke, Mt. Tom and Mt. Greylock, just to name a few.


2. Go mini golfing

This is a great family, friend or date night activity. The best part is some mini golf courses include an ice cream place to, making it the perfect night out! Check out McCray's Farm in South Hadley for mini golf, ice cream and a petting zoo! The perfect activity for people of all ages.


3. Head to Yankee Candle's Flagship Store

Take a trip to Yankee Candle Village in Deerfield, another activity great for all ages! Since this is primarily inside it would be great for an overcast or rainy day. If you are going on a sunny day there are plenty of flowers to look at outside. Take a stroll through Santa's Workshop, buy some candles, or pick up a sweet treat at Yankee Candle Village this summer!


4. Take a trip to North Hampton

Whether you want to do a little shopping or get a bite to eat, North Hampton is well worth the trip! Make it a fun day trip, a night out with friends or a date night!

5. Go out for ice cream

Okay so I know this one doesn't sound that interesting, but after all, Western Massachusetts is home of Friendly's ice cream! We also are lucky enough to have tons of other great ice cream shoppes such as Elsie's Creamery in Ludlow, Cindy's Drive In in Granby, Krazy Jake's in Wilbraham and Chubby's in Belchertown.


6. Go to a reservoir

Reservoirs are a great place to unwind from a stressful week whether you're taking a stroll, going for a run or going for a bike ride! Check out Ludlow Reservoir or Quabbin Reservoir.


7. Check out a museum

Believe it or not, Western Massachusetts is actually home to a few different museums. Springfield is home to the Dr. Seuss National Museum, along with the Springfield Science Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts. Also worth checking out are the Children's Museum at Holyoke and the Emily Dickinson Museum in Amherst.


8. Check out a hall of fame

This is similar to the last idea, but this one is perfect for sports lovers! Believe it or not, Western Massachusetts was the birthplace of both basketball and volleyball. Check out the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield and/or the Volleyball Hall of Fame in Holyoke!


9. Watch some fireworks

Western Massachusetts has fireworks all summer long that are the perfect way to spend a night with friends, family, or your significant other!


10. Take a trip to Six Flags New England

If you're from Western Mass you probably laugh when people go to Six Flags because it's probably somewhere you went as a tween. But hey, we are lucky to have a quality amusement park here in our backyard! If you don't want to buy a season pass, a day trip is fun! There's probably new rides from the last time you went too!


11. Take a trip to Magic Wings Butterfly Conservatory in South Deerfield

This is another great activity for all ages, but especially a great place to take kids! Also, it would make for a great Instagram picture (lol I had to mention that.)
