Life Hack

Finals time has come upon us. This is a time of stress, odd eating habits, crying, and where the upside smiley face emoji really just speaks to us. Although it may seem like all you should be focusing on is studying, tests, projects, and papers it is so crucial to take time for yourself. Here is a list of 11 things you can do for yourself this finals week:

1. Sleep.

I know, I know. Easier said than done. But it has been found that sleep not only helps improve your mood but can keep you healthy and improve memory.

2. Eat whatever the hell you want.

Yeah, veggies and fruits are shown to help you feel better and remember more and yada yada but if you feel like eating pasta and cake for a week straight don't let anyone stop you. If it makes you feel better and get your work done without losing your mind then why does it matter?

3. Spend some time with friends.

Whether that's all of you locking yourselves into a library room and laughing manically about everything you have to do or getting off campus and seeing a movie- it's good for you. Interacting with your friends reminds you that you're are not alone. Everyone is struggling and it's normal.

4. Read for pleasure.

There is nothing better than cracking open a book that no one has told you to read. Give yourself some power. "Yes I am reading a cheesy romance novel and no, it's not for a class."

5. Go on a walk.

Fresh air can make a big difference. Nothing is worse than being cooped up inside and staring at a wall while you struggle to remember the differences between two obscure related terms. Walks can help i mprove your mood and get those creative juices flowing .

6. Let yourself do something ridiculously unproductive for an hour.

Watch cooking videos on Facebook, aimlessly switch between Snapchat and Instagram on your phone... really the possibilities are endless.

7. Dress in clothes that make you feel the happiest in that moment.

Whether it's your old prom dress or no pants and a baggy shirt it's all about you.

8. Color

Go to the Dollar Tree or Five Below and get yourself a coloring book. You will be surprised how relaxing it can be to color and just not think about anything for a few blessed moments.

9. Remember to shower every day or every other day.

If you feel crummy about yourself you will feel ever more crummy about the work you do.

10. Clean your room.

Take it from a dirty room pro- nothing is more stressful than when your room is as messy as you feel internally. Take a few minutes to clean. You will be so glad you did.

11. Reflex on why it is you are in college and why you chose your major.

Remember why you chose your school and your major. You are working towards doing something you love for the rest of your life! This week of stress will feel like nothing down the road when you are happy and successful! Think about where you're heading.

I believe in you! Happy finals week!

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?

I've been super busy lately with school work, studying, etc. Besides the fact that I do nothing but AP chemistry and AP economics, I constantly think of stupid questions that are almost impossible to answer. So, maybe you could answer them for me, and if not then we can both wonder what the answers to these 15 questions could be.
