Don't just sit in front of a screen all summer.

11 Things To Do This Summer

Summer vacation is here and that means there are a lot of kids who have three months free of school. Three months (most likely) full of sitting around doing nothing. These days, with all of the new technological advances in the world, most kids have lost the desire to actually do something with their time off from school.

So, here are some ideas for all of you people who are looking for things to make your summer count!

1. Pick up a hobby.

Hobbies are a great way to spend your time over the summer. There are so many things that you can do, from learning a new sport to mastering the art of origami. The options are endless, just find something that interests you and go for it. What do you have to lose?

2. Read a book or ten.

Reading is a leisure activity that has been lost to younger generations. With all of these amazing books being made into movies and tv shows, kids don't see the point in reading the book. Hasn't anyone ever told you that the book is always better?

That's because there are way more details in the book and reading gives you complete control over imagining the characters and places the way you want to. What's better than that?

3. Go on a spiritual journey.

This doesn't have to mean you have to become religious. It means find time to get in touch with your spiritual side, regardless of weather it is religious or not. Just spend time getting to know yourself and what you believe in, because in the end, that is the most important thing.

4. Give back to the community.

What better way to spend your free time than helping others. Find an organization in your community and get involved. Volunteer at a food bank or a shelter. Donate clothes and food to those in need. There are so many people in the world who are suffering, so why not sacrifice your free time to help them?

5. Get in shape.

Let's face it. This is one that you can do all year around, but it is really hard when you are constantly struggling with classwork and studying for tests. In the summer, you have so much free time, so you have all of the time in the world to hit the gym or run around the neighborhood a few times.

6. Take a class.

If you are really desperate for something to do over the summer, then just take a couple of classes. It will give you something to do other than just laying around your house and watching tv all day. It will also help you get through school faster, and for some that is a real plus.

7. Get a summer job.

Who can say no to a little extra pocket cash? Apply for a few jobs and see what happens. If you get a job, then way to go you! You have something to fill your days with and you'll get paid to do it. I mean, I can't think of a better way to utilize your time.

8. Hang out with those you love.

This is a very important thing to do. During the school year it can be hard to catch up with friends and family, so summer is the best time to do so. Hit up your best friends and grab a bite to eat or spend time with family members you don't get to see much while you are in school. They will love it and you will too.

9. Go to the beach.

Pack your favorite swim suit and hit the sand for some fun in the sun, and get your tan on! Going to the beach is a very popular leisure activity to partake in during summertime. It is a great way to spend time with loved ones and just sit back and enjoy your freedom.

10. Take a trip.

Depending on your finances, this one may be a little difficult – but still doable. If you have the funds, then get out of the state and explore the streets of a new place. If your finances are a bit on the tighter side, then take a day trip to a nearby city and go to free festivals or concerts. You don't have to be rich to have a good time.

11. Just do anything but sit in front of the tv or computer.

For the love of God, please do anything else. You have so many options and I only named a small fraction of them. Don't waste your time indoors all day. Get out and enjoy the fresh air. That is what we as human beings were built for.

You have three whole months out of the classroom, don't waste it. Make it count.

In case you're unaware, "resting bitch face" is the term used to describe when a person's natural, expressionless face makes it look like they are mad at the world. Whether they are walking down the street or simply spacing out thinking about what to eat for dinner, it's very easy for others to assume that this person is either upset or mad at them. Because of this, those of us with Resting Bitch Face (RBF), and especially us women, have all experienced many of the same situations and conversations, including:

We've all had a crush before. Whether it leads to something or nothing, the process has all been the same. The awkward feelings, the stalking, and the stress of trying to keep this huge secret. The feeling of becoming a total spazz is something that cannot be avoided, and the most spazzy family that can relate to this feeling is the Belcher's.

At the tender age of 18, we are bestowed with the title of “adult.” For 17 years, we live under the rules and guidelines of our parents, school, and government, and to stray from any of those rules or guidelines marks us as a rebel. At 18, though, we must choose which college we want to go to or what career we want. We are allowed and encouraged to vote. We can buy lottery tickets and cigarettes. We can drop out of school, leave our household, and do other "adult" things. At 18, we start down a path of thinking for ourselves, when for the entirety of our lives other institutions have been mandated to think and do for us.

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.
