We all love summer break; no classes, no assignments, no stress. However, all of the Western Kentucky students that I know have miss being on campus like crazy. I myself do enjoy being at WKU, but I also enjoy the comforts of a bed larger than a twin so I'm happy at either place. There are certain things that Western students miss that really have nothing to do with school itself, but make campus that much more desirable.
1. GADS
Everyone loves a good donut, but nothing is better than a donut from GADS at 3am. Honestly, is there any better time for a donut?
2. Tailgates
Yeah, we all love WKU football and everything, but what we really love is putting together our best black and red fall outfit with our favorite boots. "Roll Tops" and everything but let's face it, we all just picture the photographs we'll be taking in the valley.
3. Being able to justify anything by saying "Roll Tops"
It may be force of habit to say, but when you scream "Roll Tops" anywhere expect for Bowling Green, you just get really weird looks.
4. Spencer's Coffee
College kids live on coffee and Western students live on Spencer's. Come on, everyone misses Waffle Wednesdays.
5. Gary himself
Western easily has the best president out there, and we all miss seeing him around campus in whichever red patterned tie he's donned for the day.
6. Being in a judgement-free environment
College kids literally do not care what you do. You can walk to DSU to get a milkshake in your pajamas at 11pm and you'll probably get a fist bump instead of awkward stares.
7. MEAL SWIPES
There is nothing more satisfying than not actually having to use money to buy your food. (Yes I knew that we pay money for those meal swipes, but actually pulling out cash to buy your Panda Express hurts your heart a little.)
8. The Hill providing your leg workout for the day
Preston is great for upper body, but everyone gets leg day out of the way just by walking to class.
9. Knowing someone everywhere you go
At WKU, you can be walking to class, to lunch, or to your dorm in the middle of the night and you'll see at least one person that you know. It's up to you whether or not you stop and talk to every recognizable face, but my go-to greeting is just throwing up deuces.
10. Setting up your ENO anywhere on campus
Too tired to walk all the way back to the library to do your homework after class? No problem, at WKU, there is prime ENO real estate everywhere you look.
11. Most importantly, your buds
All of the stuff that you miss about WKU would be nothing if you didn't have your best friends to do those things with.
Everyone who goes to WKU loves it, and we can't help it! Western is the best college out there and we can't help if we miss it sometimes. That doesn't mean summer needs to speed up though, I'll just welcome the new semester when it comes around because I get to spend it at WKU.
