11 Things That Are Acceptable Now That Thanksgiving is Over

I know you've been wanting to play Christmas music.

Halloween seems to last a weekend. Christmas seems to last a month. And Thanksgiving is one day of thanks.

Sandwiched between Halloween and Christmas, Thanksgiving can sometimes be a forgotten holiday.

I'm not one to gloss over Thanksgiving. It's one of my favorite days of the year. It's a time for family, friends, and eating.

So, as a lover of Thanksgiving, here are a few things that are acceptable to do now that the holiday is over:

1. Throw out your Halloween candy

I promise this is not a trap. Halloween was almost a month ago. If by some miracle you haven't eaten all of your candy, it's time to throw it out. This doesn't mean you can't have candy, it just means that candy isn't as good when it's a month old.

2. Eat pie for the next three days

The good news is Thanksgiving left overs include pie. All kinds of pie!!!

3. Play Christmas music

It is now okay to start looking ahead to the next holiday. Put Mariah Carey's Merry Christmas album on repeat and sing out "All I Want for Christmas to You" to your heart's desire. You're welcome.

4. Marathon holiday movies

From Home Alone to Love Actually to A Christmas Story to Eight Crazy Nights, there are tons of movies that you can and should procrastinate your school work watching.

5. Quote Elf

I know you have probably already been quoting Elf. Now that it is the holiday season, it's more acceptable.

6. Wear your winter coat

It is also acceptable to start wanting snow. However, be careful what you wish for, remember our five snow days last year?

7. Go on a shopping spree

Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals are calling your name. Get that holiday shopping for your friends and family done early. Also, even though these mega deals make it acceptable to go on a shopping spree, don't feel you need to spend all of the money you've earned this semester.

8. Start freaking out that the semester is almost over

I hate to break it to you but it's time to check the grade book and start going to office hours if you aren't doing that regularly. Time is ticking to start working on those final projects. Have your first and last freak out before getting to work.

9. Start studying for finals

This is not only acceptable. This is kind of a necessity.

10. Start looking for a summer internship

While it is never too early start planning. Now that Thanksgiving is over, it is acceptable for your relatives to start asking about your plans for six months from now. So, start searching.

11. Get nostalgic

Holidays are winding down. Classes are almost done for the year. Be sure to say bye to your friends who are going abroad. If you are going abroad be sure to say bye to the seniors graduating in the spring. Take some time to relax and enjoy the last month of the year.

The 5 Painfully True Stages Of Camping Out At The Library

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."
