Ahh, summer camp.
The place where your patience gets tested but your fun explodes. Where the smell of sunscreen and bug spray fills the air, and water balloons are your best friend and enemy at the same time.
Ever since I was little, I both attended and then worked at the same summer camp, and, without a doubt, can say that it made my summers all that much better. However, being a counselor at a summer camp is MUCH different than being on the other end of the stick as a camper. Why, you may ask? Well being a counselor takes not only a loud voice and a quick mind, but a lot of spontaneity and fun attitude.
Long story short, working at a day camp teaches you a lot in and out of the work place, and these are just some things that I have picked up along the way...
1. How to be patient.
2. How to have eyes in the back of my head.
3. How to yell... LOUD.
How else is everyone supposed to hear you?
4. How to fill and tie water balloons really efficiently.
You have to learn how to tie them with 12 kids looking over your shoulders, and also how to run away when they wanna throw them all at you.
5. How to find my inner child and make friends of all ages.
Being fun, and often crazy or silly, only make the job easier... so why not just let it out?
6. How to have team spirit.
7. How to deal with whining.
8. How to make up a game right on the spot.
9. How to put sunscreen on 25 kids in less than 10 minutes.
No other option but to do it quickly.
10. How to learn all the words to all the songs in the most current and popular Disney movie.
Because what else is going to be requested all day, every day.
11. How to love a job.
Whether the stress tears were yours or mine, we all love summer camp, and always will.
