To all you single ladies (and gentlemen) reading this right now, we get it.

Instead of moping about not having that special someone, here are a few ways you can embrace single land:

1. Watch a corny/cheesy romantic movie

Sometimes, sappy and cheesy is the only way to go to avoid a lack luster love life. Some movies on Netflix that fit this bill include “The Titanic”, “Bridget Jones’ Diary,” “Love Actually,” and “10 Things I Hate About You.” If you're not into romance, there are plenty of other genres out there that can do the job just as well. You can also detach from reality by watching some mindless TV (what I really mean is, that this is the perfect opportunity to catch up on The Bachelor).

2. Exercise; get your blood pumping and the endorphins flowing

They call it a “runner’s high” for a reason. Being active has been proven to improve one’s mood, lower stress, clear up complexion...the list goes on. It could also help give you the boost of confidence and accomplishment that you’ve been looking for today.

3. Hit the town; explore your town/city

No matter if you've just moved to a new city, or lived in the same area for several years it's always a breath of fresh air to check out what's going on down in town. Depending on where you live, the possibilities may not be endless, but there's usually something interesting happening, especially during evening or nighttime hours. Visit your favorite restaurant, go out to the movies, check out that new cute bookstore perhaps? Just the liberation and the open space in a larger community can do wonders for a hurting heart or mind.

4. Go out with your friends

There’s nothing like the rush you get from going out with your closest friends. They can help distract you from a lacking love life. Like any relationship, friendship is super important and rewarding. Many times those whom you befriend in your high school and college days are with you for life.

5. Treat yo’self... (to your favorite dish)

You don’t have to follow the rules today if your heart isn't in it. You do deserve that oh-so-tempting box of chocolates or that pasta dish that’s been calling your name. If you’re not feeling takeout or going out to eat, cooking can be a wonderful way to destress. Check out Pinterest for some tasty recipes!

6. Talk to your family or friends that are back home

As down as you may be, your loved ones back home are probably really missing you right now too. Show them some love by calling, texting, or FaceTiming. And yes, your beloved dog/cat/fish/other pet counts as family, too.

7. Go see “Fifty Shades Darker”

You know those movies that are so outrageous that they turn out to be good? This might be just the ticket. Depending on your level of interest, maybe take a shot before you go. Or ten.

8. Take a more positive approach to being single

It’s only too easy to think about all the negatives of being single on a day especially made for lovers. Still, there are some definite perks to not being in a committed relationship, such as the obvious freedom, excitement, and being able to invest more time in other areas of your life.

9. Give a gift to someone you care about

Gift-giving is one of the best feelings in the world. Just imagine your loved one’s face lighting up in joy after realizing you did something thoughtful for them. It doesn’t need to be expensive (we all understand the financial struggle of being a college student). If you’re running low on cash, maybe making something like a card or writing a nice note is a better way to go.

10. Pamper yourself with some me-time

Listening to your favorite music, taking a nice bubble bath (maybe even buy one of those bath bombs you’ve always been meaning to get), doodling, reading your favorite book, painting your nails, whatever floats your boat. When you’re swept up in the business of daily life, it’s easy to forget about taking some necessary time for yourself.

11. Try something you’ve never got around to trying in the past

Whether it be as adventurous as rock climbing, or as simple as starting a new show or joining a new club, this can be the perfect distraction tool. Get a friend or two to come along. Who knows? By trying something new you may find yourself a new passion.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
