Christmas is just around the corner and a lot of us are cringing at the thought of some topics that may come up at the dinner table. Though we tend to dread different things that may happen, we should also savor them. We must remember that as we get older, so do our family members. So, put down the hatchets and remember that the holidays are meant to bring us together, not tear us apart.

1. Grandma's cooking.

Now, grandma's cooking isn't a bad thing. But sometimes we take it for granted, especially when we can never quite make her special dishes as well as she does.

2. Arguments on politics.

It's inevitable that your family end up on the subject of politics. This can get a little annoying, but also easy to make fun of with your siblings when your family isn't looking. You may be the only ones to see how petty these arguments can get.

3. Babies.

If you have a big family like I do, there is usually a new addition to the family every once in a while. Don't take these young ones for granted, because soon they'll grow up and won't be so excited to snuggle with you anymore.

4. Fights with siblings.

Yeah, your sister might pull a chunk out of your hair, but there comes a time when you all grow up and can't spend every holiday together. So make the most of it and push through the pain (and aim for the gut).

5. Cooking mishaps.

In the moment they can be scary and there may be a lot of yelling in the kitchen. After everyone has calmed down (which may take years), you can all laugh about how your dad burnt the turkey, reminding you that mom is the queen of the kitchen.

6. Conversations with relatives you don't know.

Now you may not know them, but chances are they know you. Just sit and listen to what they have to say, because it's probably something really embarrassing about your brother that you can hang over his head.

7. The cold.

Push through the fact that you can't feel your toes and savor that last sled ride.

8. Christmas movies on repeat all. day. long.

This is the one time it's acceptable for you to continuously watch them, and after this, you'll have to wait a whole other 365 days before you can whip them out again.

9. Starbucks red cups.

Starbucks has tried to accommodate us in so many ways, yet we are still complaining. Let's be grateful for the fact that we have the ability to even complain about a coffee cup.

10. Spending all of your money on gifts.

In the moment you may cringe at your receipt, but there is no better feeling than seeing your family and friends' faces light up when they open your gifts.

11. Traveling.

Travelling can be pretty stressful, but the struggle is all forgotten when you are welcomed back with big hugs and cups of hot chocolate.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
