A song starts playing..."Thank you for being a friend. Traveled down the road and back again. Your heart is true, you're a pal and a confidant." Ahhh, the Golden Girls, such different times from now. Most older people will start feeling nostalgia when hearing that song come on. Kids my age might remember the "Saved By The Bell" theme song. Sentimental people won't just remember how the song goes, but all the different feelings an episode would bring back.
1. Everything has a meaning behind it.
Everything that you own is attached to a memory with many feelings associated with it. Be it an old shirt, classwork, an old email address, or a song, there is something meaningful about it to you. Not everyone else will understand the feelings you have, but you know and that’s all that matters.
2.You hoard old things.
You can never get rid of anything because of the memories you associate with them. When everyone else throws their schoolwork away at the end of the year, you still keep yours just in case. You still have artwork back from second grade that you never threw out.
3. It’s hard to move on.
Because you hoard everything, it is almost impossible to get rid of things. You try to clean out your closet, but then you see a shirt (that you haven't worn in 5 years) and you remember that's the shirt you were wearing when you met your best friend so you can't get rid of it. When you move houses, you have to go in every room and say goodbye first, to have one last look.
4. You remember lots of memories.
You remember tons of little moments from your life and others'. You can tell people what you were wearing on the first day of middle school and who you sat next to. When you start daydreaming, it's normally of old memories and trying to relive them. Or you starting laughing or crying because of how happy or sad you were. You could probably write a book with all that you remember.
5. You cry when you look at photos.
Reminiscing brings back feelings, be they happy or sad. You like looking at old photo albums, even if you start crying, because you were so happy. Or sometimes there is a photo of someone you miss and it brings back all the memories of them, and tears start rolling.
6. Friends don’t understand your sentimentality.
Not all of your friends are as sentimental as you are. This means that they don't get why your cap and gown are not just things you have to wear, but to you are filled with tons of feelings of senior year. They don't get why you can't just throw your school stuff away like they do.
7. You don’t understand how your friends aren't sentimental.
Your friends don't get your feelings and it's hard for you to understand how they don't have the same feelings. They like to think more about the future than the past. You don't get why they don't want to look at old pictures for an hour with you.
8. Feel all the emotions.
You feel lots of different emotions. They come out at almost any time. When you're looking at photos, listening to songs, watching a video. There are always a bunch of different emotions that you feel throughout the day.
9. You write thoughtful notes to others.
One of your favorite things to do is write letters and notes to the people you care about. Little notes that say "have a good day," or long letters that express how you feel or tell a story about way back when. You enjoy writing in yearbooks, so that person can look back at what you wrote them and remember all the time you spent together.
10. Songs bring back feelings.
Songs are one of the things that make you remember things the most. You can be listening to the radio and all of a sudden an old song from when you were in middle school. You remember roller skating with your best friends and nostalgia hits you hard. Another song comes on and it is the song you slow danced to at prom. Songs can be great and dangerous because they bring back so many memories and feelings.
