11 Things Not To Do This Summer

Summer is all about opportunity, getting out, trying new things, and finding yourself. It's easy to list the things that you should do during summer vacation in order to achieve these things but what about the things you should steer clear from? Below are a few of the things that you should not do this summer in order to maintain balance, happiness, and have one hell of a summer break.

1. Stay in and Sleep in

It goes without say that summer is the time when you usually have the most free time. Don't waste your days indoors. Get out and be spontaneous! Explore your surroundings, there's always something out there to do.

2. Flake on your plans

It's in our nature to make a mental or physical bucket list in preparation of summer break. Don't get lazy or unmotivated and not complete the things you said you would. Another hook off of this tip is to follow through with your plans with other people. Don't make promises you can't keep, follow through and have a fun with the people closest to you.

3. Eat out

Try new recipes and cook at home. My usual excuse for eating out is not having time to cook. But i've found myself having more time and trying out new dishes. Snapchat's TasteMade channel on the discovery page is the perfect place for quick easy recipe inspiration. Pro tip!

4. Be heartbroken

Let me tell you, summer is the best time to heal because of the lack of heavy workload that exists during the school year. Use summer to slowly move on from heartbreak. If you are starting a relationship during the summer proceed with caution, be lit not sad during break

5. Be afraid of change

Don't forget about that old desk that you've been meaning to throw out, or that Pinterest room decor that you've been meaning to do for months. Change up your space and redecorate. There's millions of college budget ways to do this the information is all online at the tip of your fingers.

6. Go somewhere cold

Remember when you were complaining about the snow and cold temperatures? Don't complain now about the summer sun, embrace the heat, wear less, go out more.

7. Have a free weekend

Try and be productive even on your lazy days. Start a book and read out by the pool. You can relax and be productive, always maintain good energy and stay happy.

8. Be a promiscuous reader

Or a book abandoner. Do research on your book before reading it and finish it! I understand sometimes it can either be hard to get through or you start losing interest but don't let that habit start to reflect your habits in life. It's the little things.

9. Complain

Try and keep a positive outlook on things. If you feel things are starting to get a little overwhelming and you are irritant, express those feelings in healthier ways (writing, exercise, music, etc.). It's always nice to have someone to talk to but spare them as well, a complainer can be hard to sympathize with.

10. Be afraid to spend

Always try and budget or find cheaper versions of activities you'd like to do. Don't overspend but also don't be afraid to spend. Sometimes things are worth their costs, not everything in life is free and during the summer you'll realize that a little splurge on something that can potentially give you great experiences and stories won't hurt.

11. Be careless

Remember to make healthy and smart choices. Don't be careless, be carefree. Know what is right and good for you and don't let your judgment get clouded. Do what makes you happy and love yourself, always.

Try a few of these tips out and find yourself having a stress-free, carefree summer!

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Kourtney Kardashian

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
