Going to college out-of-state can be difficult. Especially when you are fortunate to have lived in such an amazing state. Vermont is truly a one-of-a-kind of place that is like nowhere else on this planet. Here are 11 things I miss from Vermont:
1. Fall
Arguably the most beautiful time to be in Vermont is the fall. Hiking is amazing to see all of the foliage. The leaves are changing colors, you can go apple picking, pumpkin picking and drink hot apple cider.
2. Snow
There's nothing like a Vermont snow storm. Vermonters know that a true snow storm has several feet of snow and we don't take anything less than that. Having a day to yourself to drink hot chocolate and play outside in the snow as most of the entire town shuts down for the day.
3. Local food and drinks
Nothing is better than local food and drinks for Vermont. Everything from dairy to meat to maple syrup, the food and drinks taste better because they are from Vermont and that you are supporting a local.
4. No traffic
With roads no bigger than three lanes and the occasional rush hour traffic, driving in Vermont is perfect for impatient drivers.
5. Downtown Burlington
The scene is always different everytime I go to Burlington. There's always new local boutiques and restaurants. People watching is great and there is always an event occurring.
6. How close everything is
Where I lived, most of the places that I frequented were less than 10 minutes away. It's easy to navigate and you don't have to plan excursions, so it's easy to be spontaneous.
7. The sky
It might seem dumb, but I miss the dark night sky of Vermont. I currently live in a city that is somewhat damaged by light pollution, making the sky at night a purplish color and I can't usually see stars here. In Vermont, a perfect summer night is where there aren't clouds and you can see endless shining stars.
8. No billboards
I didn't realize how intrusive and ugly billboards were until I lived out of state. Having billboards be illegal is one of the reasons Vermont is so fantastic.
9. The mountains
The mountains are undeniably beautiful all year round. When they change color in fall, have snow on them in the winter or are thriving in spring and summer, the mountains can be seen from most places in Vermont.
10. Lake Champlain
Lake Champlain is one of my favorite parts of Vermont. Whether it's by the Waterfront in Burlington, in the Islands, in New York or any of the other gorgeous locations, Champlain is an essential part of what makes Vermont, Vermont.
11. The people!
OK, I'm a bit biased, but I honestly believe that some of the nicest people are from Vermont. I have met the friendliest, most open-minded and nicest people from Vermont!
Everybody should visit Vermont because there's no other place like it!
