Spelman College was founded on April 11th, 1881 by Sophia B. Packard and Harriet E. Giles and ever since has been an elite institution created for the betterment of Black women. Here are just a few of the things I love about my college!

Freedom: This is pretty general, but as with any college there is an immense sense of freedom I have to make my own decisions. What's also cool is for many people, college is their first time being away from home and their parents, which means they've never had to fend for themselves before, this is a great time to train yourself on money management among other aspects that come along with being an adult.

Class Size: 11:1 Small class sizes afford you the opportunity to get to know and work with your peers and professors on a personal level. This is especially great for when you are struggling and need to go to office hours for your professor, most times they will know exactly who you are. An added bonus of this is if you take the time to create a relationship with your professor, they are more willing to help you towards the end of the term.

On Campus Organizations:There is something for everybody at Spelman. With the variety of over 70 organizations we offer, you are sure to find your niche!

The AUC: As a Spelman student, I have the distinct pleasure of being a part of a consortium which, primarily speaking, consists of Spelman College, Morehouse College and Clark Atlanta University. The family like atmosphere is like none other.

Events: From Market Friday to Founders Day, you can be sure to have a great time at the events held at Spelman. Of course, no function is complete without the Swag Surf

Sisterly Support: The Spelman community is one of a kind. My Spelman Sisters and I support each other in every endeavor. Rarely do you find women that are genuinely supportive of one another in this day and age so it's quite special.

Dorm Pride: One thing you can be sure to do throughout your four years at Spelman is rep your freshman dorm. The back and forth banter at events such as the stroll off competitions show the healthy rivalry we have. Shout to to all the Di Lambda Chi Cuties!

Association: When people hear that you go to Spelman, they know that you mean business, that you're a hard worker and that you aspire to be an outstanding and productive contributor to society.

Rigor: It takes a lot to be the number one HBCU in the country. With some of the best professors in the nation teaching at our school, we have some of the most rigorous academics but it's all for our betterment and ensures that we reach our goals of academic achievement.

Tradition: From the White Dress Ceremony and Brother-Sister Exchange freshman year to Class Day and March Through the Alumnae Arch senior year, Spelman is full of meaningful traditions that enrich our culture.

The dedication we have to truly being world changers: Most importantly, what you see is what you get. It's true, young women do attend Spelman with strong desires to impact the world we live in for the better. We are all making a choice to change the world.

Now that Halloween is over, it's time to focus on the Holiday Season. Don't get me wrong, I think Thanksgiving is great and can't wait for it, but nothing gives me greater joy than watching Freeform's 25 Days of Christmas, lighting peppermint scented candles, decking the halls, and baking gingerbread cookies. So while we approach the greatest time of the year, let's watch the 15 best Christmas movies of all time.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

Being pre-med is quite a journey. It’s not easy juggling school work, extracurricular activities, volunteering, shadowing, research, and MCAT prep all at the same time. High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
