11 Things I Learned At 18

Throughout your life, you learn a lot of valuable lessons. Mistakes happen. You live and you learn. But even when things seem to be overwhelming, there are some things that you must always remember.

1. Love yourself.

I cannot stress this enough. In order to find even the smallest bit of happiness in your life, you have to love yourself.

2. Not everyone is going to like you.

Yes, believe it or not, there will always be at least one person that doesn't like you. You can't spend your valuable time trying to get everyone to like you. Chances are, they're probably just jealous.

3. Never lose your faith.

You are going to lose your way sometimes, and it's okay to be lost every now and then, but always stay grounded in your faith.

4. Don't settle.

Keep your standards high. Don't settle for someone just because you love them. Don't make exceptions for anyone.

5. Let go.

Sometimes we outgrow people, and that's okay.

6. Leave it in the past.

Stop trying to fix things that are broken. Some things aren't meant to be fixed. You can try so hard to glue the broken pieces of glass back together, but you just end up hurting yourself worse. Continue to look forward.

7. Not all "best friends" stay.

Sometimes, they're not supposed to. Just like everyone else, best friends can come and go.

8. Move on.

I know it sounds scary, but you have to let that first love go. If it didn't work out, then obviously God has something bigger planned for you.

9. Don't give up on love.

Yeah, you might have had a few relationships where love simply wasn't enough. When things ended, you were broken, I know. But when someone comes along and wants to take all of your broken pieces and put you back together, let them. Don't push them away cause you're scared. Some risks are worth taking.

10. Be in control of your happiness.

Don't ever let anyone take away your happiness. If they can't take away your pain, then why should you let them take away your happiness?

11. Don't be afraid.

There is a reason why the Bible says "don't be afraid" 365 times. You should never be afraid of anything, whether you're trying something you've never done before, or just releasing the old and allowing the new. God is always there with you.

"When I am afraid, I will trust in you." - Psalms 56:3

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
