11 Pieces Of Advice I Would Tell My Younger Self

I wish I could go back in time and tell myself what I know now.

Middle school years were some of the toughest years most people, including myself. Bullying, in particular, becomes more present, and feelings of self-doubt and insecurities take control of minds. Although time makes us wiser, I wish some one was there to give me the advice I needed to feel whole again.

1. No matter how hard you try, it may never be good enough, and that's OK.

Even when you give your 100% best effort at something, it may not be good enough. Whether it's academics, sports, hobbies, etc, there will always be something that could have been better. But that is OK. You should never give up or stop trying after rejection. Someone will always be prettier, smarter, more athletic, more stylish and more advanced but there will never be another you.

2. If you don't fit in, you're doing the right thing.

You were born to stand out. If you are different you are doing it right. Following what other people are doing won't get you anywhere in life. Be a leader, and be proud that you're not following the status quo.

3. God's "No" is not a rejection, it's a redirection.

More often than not, things don't work out the way we hoped it would. You may like a certain person and it doesn't work out, or maybe you're reaching for a goal and you can't seem to grab it. These are all little signs from God saying to steer your life in a different direction. It's important to understand that this is not a rejection, it's just a redirection.

4. Follow your gut instinct.

As you grow older you are introduced to more dangerous things. People may begin to peer pressure you. NEVER do anything you are not comfortable doing to look "cool." Always listen to the voice inside you that tells you it's not a good idea.

5. If you want something, work for it.

Don't talk about it, be about it. Life is tough, and soon enough you're going to need to support yourself without the help of your parents. Work hard for the life you want, the goals you wish to accomplish and the dreams you have. Nothing comes easy that is worth it.

6. Put your happiness first.

Never cut yourself trying to clean up somebody else's broken glass. Understand that your well being is the most important thing. You shouldn't ever feel like you're being walked on. Turn the tables and put yourself first, it goes a long way.

7. Spend as much time as you can with your family.

You don't need to be running around with your best friends at every hour of the day. Call your grandparents on the phone. Hang out with your cousins. Make an effort to get together with you family because they won't be around forever.

8. Don't care about other people's opinions of you.

Be okay with yourself. Never change who you are because someone doesn't like you. Look in the mirror and love what you see. People will judge you no matter what so you might as well do what you want. If you want to dress a certain way, wear makeup or act a certain way and it makes you happy- do it. As long as you love yourself nothing else matters.

9. Don't try to grow up too fast.

You have your whole life to worry about grown up things. Enjoy your youth. Dance around and play in the fall leaves. Don't look at celebrities on Instagram and wish you looked like them. You're going to regret not acting like a silly kid and making the most of your tween years.

10. You are the master of your own destiny.

You can do anything in this world that you set your mind to. The world is full of opportunities and the possibilities are endless. With an ambitious mind and a passionate heart, there is nothing stopping you from being extremely successful.

11. Take moments to admire the earth and thank God for all the blessings in your life.

In this day and age, it's so easy to get wrapped up in social media and other nonsense. Stop. Take a look around you. It is a miracle that you're here on earth. Watch the sunset, listen to the birds chirp. Clear your mind and escape reality for a moment. Allow yourself to relax and breathe.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
