11 Things I'd Rather Give Up Than Coffee

We're all a little addicted to something, coffee is mine.

"Hi, my name is Gabby and I'm a coffee-colic." Dramatic, but so very true. This past week I tried to give up coffee completely and quit cold turkey. It was all working out, until it didn't. Coffee doesn't just keep me awake, I'm convinced it keeps me sane. I was tired, cranky and actually got headaches without it. I was raised where we didn't leave the house without a cup of coffee first. I'm not sure now if that was a blessing or a curse, but coffee is in my bloodstream, basically, and I need it. So, actually as I type this there is a pot of coffee brewing, and I haven't had it for a week.

[Five minutes later.]

...sorry, guys, I really had to enjoy that cup. Anyway, then I realized there is no way I could give up coffee. Here's some things I think I could sacrifice if it meant keeping the caffeinated cups of heaven.

1. Tanning Beds

Don't freak out, you can still get spray tans or the natural sun. I was a religious tanner from age 13 to 19, then I just stopped for a whole year. I felt extremely pale, but I survived. I don't think I'd survive a year without coffee.

2. Red Meat

A little weird to think about, but this is also another thing I've already tried getting rid of. A few years ago for Lent I gave up red meat, and again it wasn't that bad. Of course I had a Wendy's cheeseburger as soon as I possibly could, but that was a more simple craving. I don't crave coffee, I need it.

3. Instagram Filters

I'd rather be enjoying that coffee.. Let's be honest, it looks better without one, anyway...

4. Gluten

This one is for all of us who are supposed to limit gluten in their diet, but don't. I love pizza, bagels and a good sandwich. And let's face it, gluten is in everything! Great news... there are gluten-free alternatives to everything, as well. I've never seen an alternative to coffee, and I don't want one.

5. Alcohol

I'm in college -- drinking with friends is about one of the only things there is to do. But, if that meant I didn't get my morning coffee, it'd be a no-brainer to trade the booze for brews. Coffee brews, that is.

6. Ice cream

I don't know about the rest of you, but I could eat ice cream daily. Have you ever had an affogato? It's ice cream in coffee.. but really, I could stick to my favorite creamer.

7. Let's go all in: dairy products in general

A lot of us have problems digesting the stuff anyway. Lactose intolerance... I've never heard of coffee intolerance, but hey, we're not giving that up anymore. Plus, they make nondairy creamers. If Kourtney Kardashian can do it, so can I right?

8. Sweets, yes, all of them.

The largest candy store in the U.S. is less than an hour away from my house, so this would be a bit more difficult than the rest, but you can for sure make coffee taste sweet.

9. Fast Food

Yes, all of the fast food joints. That's OK, Starbucks definitely does not count.

10. Twitter

Maybe it's just me, but I'm basically over it. Since '09 I've been tweeting Justin Bieber and I've only gotten one reply. Coffee wouldn't do me like that..

11. Make-up

I love makeup. I at least have a little bit on every day. To be honest, though, I look worse with no coffee than no makeup.

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?
