The following 11 things had their prime in the '80s and '90s, but have now worked their way back to this century and are truly “bringing sexy back." Some of these things we can remember our parents wearing and being embarrassed to stand next to them, and now we are purchasing these items for probably way more than our parents ever did. Don’t count out your Hollister Polos just yet, who knows if they could be trendy 20 years from now!
1. Birkenstocks.
This pair of shoes needs to be addressed right now. I can remember my elementary school teachers wearing Birkenstocks with socks on casual Fridays and thinking they were the ugliest shoes. Today these shoes have swept the nation for both male and female young adults. Once known as “Jesus sandals,” these have become one of the trendiest pieces of footwear you could own. Not to mention how comfortable they actually are.
2. Overalls.
For a while I did not understand the purpose of overalls. But then it hit me, overalls are just a denim romper. And rompers are cool, and denim is in, so of course overalls have made a comeback. This article of clothing is most commonly found on three-year-olds, but has now become one of the coolest and greatest things to own during your college years; that is, if you can pull it off.
3. Fanny Packs.
Okay now, let's be real, owning a fanny pack is probably one of the best things that happened to you. From music festivals, to frat parties, to traveling Europe, these things are the most efficient and practical way to carry your belongings. So, why did we hate on them so much? I'd like to thank the many moms in Disney World who have brought this once frowned upon trend back.
4. Bell-Bottoms.
In elementary school, bell-bottoms were okay, in middle school if you didn’t have boot cut what were you doing, and by high school if they weren’t skinny what were you even wearing? Today, bell-bottoms have made their way back and they come in all sorts of patterns and styles. These pants are comfortable, they let the ankles breathe, and ultimately are here to stay.
5. Ponchos.
If you are cool enough to rock a poncho, then you are in luck because they are back and better than ever. A fall must-have, these things are like a blanket on your body with a neck hole. What is better than that?
6. Chokers.
One of the biggest comebacks has to be the choker. I can vividly remember my friends and I with our chokers and the sad feeling that occurred when you were taking it off and it snapped. Chokers are back. The variety of styles is astonishing and there is one for every occasion. Although it may take a little to get used to something tight around your neck, this accessories is back in action, but how long will it actually stay?
7. Half-Up-Half-Down High Pony.
This hairstyle, that was Stephanie Tanners go-to in "Full House," is one that many girls have taken to today. This is also now sometimes referred to as the Arianna Grande hairstyle, since she is seen rocking it at her concerts and throughout her daily life. It is cute, fun, and a well-deserved comeback.
8. Scrunchies.
Going off the half-up-half-down high pony, why not throw a scrunchy in your hair? Not only are scrunchies used to put one's hair up, but they can also be used as a simple bracelet. They are even comfortable because they don’t pull your hair too much. If you have super thick or thin hair, this is not going to stay in for very long, so just throw it on your wrist and rock it as an accessory.
9. Polaroid Cameras.
These cameras, once seen at your friends 7th birthday party, are now one of the coolest ways to take a picture. Forget the iPhone 6, Polaroid cameras instantly take the picture and the grainy faded filter makes this instantly "insta worthy."
10. Flannels.
These warm button-ups, once described as something a lumberjack wears, have made their way back to the youth of our country. Whether you are wearing it around your waist or pairing it with a crop top, flannels can be worn anytime of the year, and the fun colors give your all-black outfit a nice pop.
11. Doc Martens.
I thought these bulky shoes would never see the light of day again, but they have! With a variety of colors and patterns, Doc Martens really stepped up their game and are no longer just a bulky awkward pair of shoes. If you can pull off these once retro shoes, then you have just about made it.
