11 Things I Hate About Being A Woman

The struggle is real.

11 Things I Hate About Being A Woman

So in general, being a woman is pretty OK. I definitely wouldn't ever want to change it (mainly because I know there are some crappy things about being men, too). But there are some things about being a woman that kind of suck, and we all know it!

1. Periods.

Periods get two numbers because they suck that much. Number one is for bleeding. Because bleeding is not fun, and men will never understand how obnoxious it is to have to carry around pads and/or tampons all of your life.

2. Periods!

Why do periods get to be number two, as well? I'll tell you why -- cramps! Not only do we bleed, but it hurts to do so! No amount of ibuprofen really takes the edge off. It's horrible.

3. Getting taxed to buy tampons for our periods.

There's been a big stink about this lately. If you didn't know, a lot of states don't see tampons as "necessities." How about we women just bleed over everything in society -- then will they be necessary?

4. Going to the gynecologist.

I've only gone once so far, and it was not a pleasurable experience. It's painful, it's awkward, and it's very uncomfortable. I'm sure eventually you get used to it, but it's still weird.

5. Unruly hair.

Does a woman's hair ever cooperate? I have curly hair and I'll be honest, it does whatever the hell it wants. I just let it go. Sometimes you can't tame the beast.

6. Bras.

Boobs are kind of okay to have, but bras are uncomfortable. Especially wire bras! And when the wire snaps? Oh man, no one can really love bras. They make our boobs look nice, but sometimes it doesn't even feel worth it.

7. Makeup has somehow become a "necessity" for beauty.

I've never really worn makeup, and I don't plan to start. I'm actually incredibly clueless -- mascara, eyeliner, all the tubes and bottles... it's too much for me. Some women like to wear makeup for themselves, and that's cool if you like it. But I feel like our society presses women to wear makeup, like if you want to be considered beautiful makeup is the only option. Aren't we enough without it?

8. Clothes shopping.

The fact that we have hips as women totally screws with designers. Is it just me, or is it impossible to find a pair of jeans that fit right?? Designers try to make a one-size-fits-most dress or skirt or shirt, but it does not fit most. I've got big hips and a big butt, so it's basically impossible to find clothes... ever.

9. Shaving.

OK, so men have to do this, too. But shaving our legs and armpits are basically a norm. Men can have bushy beards; if a woman has stubbly legs, she's looked down upon. Sometimes I don't get our society.

10. Haircuts are a million times more expensive.

To some degree, I get it. We have more hair than (most) men. But still! It costs guys $15, and we're stuck paying $70+ for a decent haircut. Where's the justice?

11. Actually, everything is more expensive as a woman.

Even if you cut out the cost of those nicely taxed tampons and the makeup society pushes us to wear, life in general costs more as a woman. Shampoo costs more, soap costs more, girly toys cost more... CNBC did a study that found that women are paying thousands of dollars more over the course of their lives than men are on similar products. Seriously?

Like I said -- I like being a woman. Overall, it's a pretty nice deal. But some things bother the crap out of me. Like the things above. I hope you all can relate to the struggle!

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
