11 Things That Happen When You Remember To Love Yourself Again; As Told By Greys Anatomy

Everyone has a story, and they aren't all sprinkled in glitter and gold. Like the seasons that come and go, so does the sunshine in our days. Everyone around you has seen heartache, pain, loss, and hopelessness. Through the bad days, we must learn to love again and we have to start with ourselves. Here are 11 things that happen when you remember to love yourself again.

1. You lose the "friends" that held you back.

There comes a point when we realize all things lost aren't always a loss. Like when you lose that old T-shirt you've had for way too long or those extra pounds from all the Christmas cookies, when you start loving yourself again you quickly lose the negative or fake friends around you.

2. You begin to demand more.

When you remember to love yourself again, you also start to remember what you deserve. You love yourself and begin demanding that same love and respect from others. The halfway friendships and relationships no longer make the cut.

3. You're not afraid to aim higher and take bigger risks.

OK, so maybe not set up candles and propose to McDreamy big, at least not right away. But once you start loving yourself first, I promise you'll be on your way in no time.

4. You forgive yourself for your past.

So maybe you forgot to love yourself for a while. Maybe you made a few bad decisions and found yourself wandering along rock bottom. Once you start loving yourself, you will quickly remember that rock bottom is not your home and you will forgive yourself.

5. You will start taking better care of yourself.

Whether its eating healthier, working out more, quitting bad habits or even just taking off the sweatpants and leaving the couch; you will start to take better care of you.

6. You stop fearing rejection.

Not only do you stop fearing rejection, but you almost accept it. You love yourself for all that you are, so when someone rejects your values, it will only motivate you more.

7. You love yourself, flaws and all.

Your flaws are a part of who you are, so if you love yourself for them, some one else will too.

8. You won't be afraid to chase what matters.

The most impactful decisions of our lives are also often the hardest to make. But when you love yourself, making these decisions becomes easier.

9. You start to love yourself for all of you.

You have to love your own soul and body before you can let someone else love you. Be proud of your mind and your body. You can only let others love you as much as you love yourself.

10. Life gets a whole lot more fun.

Love your life, and life will love you back. I mean, who wouldn't want their life to be one big dance party?

11. Once you start to love yourself, you wonder how you ever stopped.

No one ever became a world-class surgeon or found the cure for Alzheimer's by not having full faith in themselves. So start loving yourself if you find that you've forgot to lately, and become the Christina Yang of the world. So in words of Ms. Yang herself:

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
