Thanksgiving Break is right around the corner and it's time to start planning how you are going to spend it. This break offers the opportunity for you to do so many things in just a few short days. But spend your time wisely, as it will go by quickly. Here are a few of my suggestions on how to make the most of your Thanksgiving Break!
1. Spend time with family.
Family comes first. Being at college, away from your family for so long can be difficult at times, but it makes seeing them again all the more special. Cherish the few days you have with them and show them how much you love and appreciate them.
2. Watch the Thanksgiving Day Parade.
This has always been a tradition with my family for as long as I can remember. I love staying in my pajamas and lounging on the couch while watching the Rockettes perform their signature dance or a number from the latest Broadway show.
3. Eat at your favorite places.
Eating the same kinds of food from the mediocre dining hall can get extremely boring and makes you really appreciate your favorite foods from home. Make sure to visit your town’s deli and get your go-to sandwich, pick up a delicious slice of pizza from the best pizzeria, and enjoy your guilty pleasure from the local bakery.
4. Go to a football game.
There’s nothing like cheering on your favorite NFL team bundled up with layers on layers, eating a hot dog. If you can’t make it to a game, watching on your TV at home with friends and family can be just as fun.
5. Attempt Black Friday shopping.
Yes, Black Friday can be scary, but it’s one of those things that everyone should experience once in their lives. Plus, it’s a good way to get your holiday shopping out of the way at a great price.
6. Participate in Thanksgiving cooking.
Thanksgiving Day cooking can be a lot to take on between the turkey, the stuffing, the mashed potatoes and about 50 other things. Help out your mom or whoever is cooking to make life a little easier for the chef.
7. Movie night with friends.
Hanging out with your friends is a must when you go home for break. I can’t wait to have a chill movie night with my best friends when I get home, watching one of our favorites while sharing college stories and stuffing our faces with junk food.
8. Bake desserts.
Whether it’s a pie for Thanksgiving or a batch of brownies just because, baking is always a fun and delicious things to do alone or with friends. Don’t forget to share your treats after!
9. Take a walk through your hometown.
Go to the places you haven’t see in a while, like the local park or your high school to revisit some of your childhood memories. You might be surprised to see some things might have changed!
10. Relax!
School can get pretty hectic at times, especially during finals week. Thanksgiving break gives you the perfect opportunity to take a break from school for a little while and enjoy a few lazy days at home.
11. ...But don’t forget about school completely!
Although your time at home may distract you from school, it is important to keep it in the back of your mind. Make sure you are fully prepared for the semester ahead!
However, you chose to spend your Thanksgiving Break, make it special. Yes, you can do fun things like bake with friends or watch football, but remember to appreciate the most important things in life. In the spirit of the holiday, be sure to thank your family and friends for their love and support and be grateful for all the amazing things life can offer. Have a great Thanksgiving everyone!
