Rochester, Minnesota is best known for the Mayo Clinic, IBM, and being one of the coldest urban cities in the United States. If you ask anyone if they know someone who works for or at the Mayo Clinic the answer will undoubtedly be "yeah, my dad works at St. Mary's, my uncle is an electrician at Methodist, my cousin is an intern..." and the list goes on. Below are 11 things you feel when you're from Rochester, Minnesota.
1. Proud (of the Mayo Clinic)
We have the number 1 hospital in the entire country, why wouldn't we be proud of that?
2. Annoyance (when people don't know that Rochester exists)
When we go to other cities and say that we're from Rochester and the person has no idea where it is or why it's important we feel some annoyance (albeit sometimes deep down).
3. Immense School Pride
Our rivalries are for the ages, even if we aren't the best at football you better believe we will still chant that we are!
4. Disappointment (when you remember we don't have a lake that isn't man made)
We're the third largest city in Minnesota, why don't we have a Chick Fil A or Sonic?! Why don't we have an actual lake?!
5. Fortunate (to have the Mayo Clinic to take out your wisdom teeth)
Not only is the Mayo Clinic top notch when it comes to health care, but OMC is also pretty great. When it comes to getting the care we need we don't have to look far.
6. Excited (for the first Thursday in June)
You know what that means!! Thursdays on First (and Third)!!!
7. Boredom (when you're trying to figure out what to do on a Friday night)
As a young adult, it's hard to find something to do that won't put us back a few paychecks besides go to Bowlocity, see a movie, or walk through Quarry Hill (...again). The cities are also an hour and a half away so you really have to commit if you're going to go up there.
8. Awe (when it comes to the other side of the city)
Sometimes, with traffic on 52, it can take upwards of 20/25 minutes to get from one side of Rochester to the other. So when you do get there and see what they have to offer (aka the other Target) you wonder why teleporting isn't a thing yet.
9. Happiness (when Steam has an open mic night)
Finally something else for us to do! And there are so many talented musicians in Southeast Minnesota that you can never go wrong attending one of these open mic nights.
10. Amazed (that you live in the best city for female workers in the country)
It's a fact.
11. Happy (that you get to call this city home)
As a native Rochester-ite (?) I would not have wanted to grow up anywhere else. There's just too much to love.
