As a girl standing at 6'2", I don't think I could count on my hands and feet how many remarks I get about being tall. It doesn't matter where I am, who says it, or if it's appropriate or not – as soon as I walk outside my room I know I'll get some sort of comment on my height. Whether you're a boy or a girl, if you're tall then you've most likely heard something along these lines.

1. "Oh my god, you're SO tall!

Thank you, random person. All my life I thought I was short! If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have come to this realization.

2. "How tall are you?!!"

I don't know, how short are you?!!

3. "Do you play basketball?"

I've never played a sport in my life, nor do I have the coordination to play any. Nice try though.

4. "You should be a model!"

I'm flattered, really, thank you for boosting my self-esteem. However, just because I'm tall does not mean I am fit to be a model.

5. Random people feeling the need to tell you about their tall friend/relative/coworker.

I honestly don't care about your son's best friend, your nephew, or coworker's daughter, but I'll stand here and pretend like I do to be polite.

6. "How's the weather up there?"

LOL, wow I've never heard that one before!!! You're so funny and completely original!

7. "Why don't you like being tall?"

I mean, besides the fact I have to buy all my pants and shoes online to ensure a size that fits and being taller than every attractive boy I see, it's a blast! Seriously! Love it!

8. "You're blocking the view."

Uhm, I am the view.

9. "You can so wear heels!"

Please, stop lying to yourself.

10. "Normally I'm the tall one, you make me feel so short!"

Not to be rude, but you must have friends all under 5'5" because you're not really that tall.

11. "You gotta find yourself a nice, tall basketball player or something."

Are you sure they exist? Cause I can't seem to find any.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
