11 Things Every College Student Knows To Be True About Summer Vacation

Summer vacation is one of the most anticipated times of the year, especially for college students that want to avoid finals at all costs. Summer means no more homework, stress or responsibility. But for college students, college also means not seeing your friends every day and like the Fifth Harmony song: work, work, work. Here's your guide to summer according to college students.

1. Now that finals are over, you can't stop thinking about your summer plans

After living in the library for two weeks and stress-eating Flaming Hot Cheetos, turning in your last final is one of the best feelings in the world. In the wise words of Troy Bolton, “school's out, scream and shout.” Goodbye 8 a.m.s and group projects, hello sleeping in until noon.

2. Only to remember you don't live next door to your best friends anymore

Now that you don’t have homework in the way, all you want to do is hang out with your friends. But the end of classes also means your favorite people are more than a 10-second walk away.

3. As a result, you're in constant communication with your friends

You end up Snapchatting your friends a play-by-play of your day: “Look at my breakfast, my eggs after one bite, my eggs in fluorescent lighting.”

4. You catch up with home friends

After being states apart for three months, you’re finally reunited with your home friends, and all's right with the world again. Lifehack: bring snacks with you when you see your friends because you will be hugging them for at least an hour.

5. You hang in all of your old spots

Whether its Central Perk or someone’s basement, every group of friends has a place they inevitably hang at. After living separate lives for the past three months you wonder if things will be awkward, but then someone brings up an inside joke and it’s like no time has passed.

6. That is, when you're not working

In your excitement for summer, you forgot about one thing — work — 40-hour work weeks will have you begging for tests and group projects. OK, not group projects — let’s not get too crazy.

7. You will wistfully wish for your youth

Work will have you reminiscing about jump roping and Slip-n-Slides before you can say, “Thank you for shopping at Target.”

8. Back when you didn't get asked questions like, "So what are you going to do with that?"

At some point during the summer, you’ll eventually find yourself at a family functions. Before you know it, you’ll be answering endless questions about your major and the crowd favorite: “So what are you gonna do with that?” Load up on pasta salad and avoid eye contact at all costs.

9. So you retreat with Netflix

When your friends are busy, your plans consist of Netflix with a side of Netflix. Your only exercise is running to the bathroom when they say “previously on,” because you just watched the last three seasons in one sitting.

10. And hanging out with your parents who are actually hilarious

In high school your goal is to put in as little face time with your parents as possible. In college, you no longer shudder when you say you’re tired and your dad says, “Hi tired, I’m dad.” Instead, you realize your dad has secretly been a slightly nerdy, comedic wizard this whole time. You sneaky dad!

11. Only to realize school starts next week

And just when you thought summer would never end, you realize school starts next week, and you actually had a pretty great summer

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
