11 Things College Students Do At The End Of The Semester

We just really want the semester to be over.

There are only a couple of weeks left in the semester ,and everyone is buzzing with the excitement of summer and ending another school year, but stressed to the max with trying to finish everything on time. Everyone knows what it feels like to be emotionally and physically drained, and that’s what these last few weeks are doing to us. We’re all just waiting for summer break. But summer isn’t here yet – we still have assignments and papers due and finals to take. With so much left to do, and so little time to do it, here’s a list of things college students are all too familiar with during the last weeks of school.

1. Contemplating actually going to class

Let’s be real. We’ve all had days where we just didn’t want to go to class. Sometimes getting out of bed is hard because we are so over the semester. We find ourselves thinking more than once a day “Do I really have to go?”

2. Calculating grades to figure out what you need to get on the final to pass the class

You’re busy turning in your final assignments and projects, and you’re trying to do as well as possible on them. You suddenly turn into a math guru when you figure out that the lowest you can get on the final exam is 94% to make your grade a B.

3. Cry about stress

You still have so much to do and your stress levels are rising beyond belief that you are at risk of crying at any second. That's ok. We’ve all been there.

4. Showing up anywhere on campus in sweats and a t-shirt because you really don’t care anymore

Not caring about your appearance really doesn’t matter when you have so many other things to do. You’ll show up to class in PJs with bed hair and continue with the rest of your day dressed that way.

5. Pulling way too many all-nighters

You have two papers to write and three tests to study for, and the only way to get it all done is to pull an all-nighter. But even when you’ve been up all night it sometimes feels like you haven’t made any progress with your work, so you’re at it again the next night.

6. Drinking more than enough coffee

How much is too much? When you have things to do, there definitely isn’t enough. Coffee will be the only thing you’re consuming during finals week.

7. Think of all the careers that don’t require a college degree

You sometimes think you’d rather drop out and work at a fast food restaurant for the rest of your life than sit in class and do all this work. But you realize that you’ve come too far to stop now, so you keep up the good work and stay in school. It makes you smart.

8. Recount the number of days until classes are done

“There’s no way there are only two weeks left in the semester?” Finals are closer than you think, and you have to keep counting the days to remind yourself that yes, you’ve almost made it through another year.

9. Finding any extra credit opportunities

You finally think that should try to make up some bonus points for that class you kept skipping, so you scope the scene for any possible event that would count as extra credit points. When you get there, you find out that many others are there as well, doing the same thing as you.

10. Pay for your procrastination.

You kept pushing aside the assignments that were given to you at the beginning of the semester, and now you have just a week to do them all. You get together with people in your class to finish the assignments together…hopefully you finish in time!

11. Live in the library.

It’s like everyone on campus suddenly remembers there is a library in the middle of campus during the last few weeks of school. You become one with the library, and you start seeing the same people in there every day with you.

10 Signs You Work In A Restaurant

There's always chaos in the restaurant business.

10 Signs You Work In A Restaurant
Brisanis

Working in the restaurant industry is possibly the most fundamentally challenging occupation I have ever experienced when it comes to hospitality and customer service. When you go to a five-star restaurant you expect the time of your life, a two hour getaway, a walk through another time period (rustic Italy, France, Spain, etc), or simply a honeymoon undergo. What you don't see are the behind the scenes scut work: carrying trays, polishing glassware and silverware, kitchen chaos, the list is endless. Now, I'm not saying being a host, server, or bartender is the worst thing in the whole wide world, there are definitely worse things. But the fact of the matter is that it isn't always sunshine and rainbows. In the two years that I have spent in restaurant and customer service, I have spoken my share of expletives, yelled at kitchen staff, and dealt with not-so-happy guests. It isn't easy to keep a bright and shiny smile on your face when all you want to do is choke every person who walks near you. Anyone who has spent even two weeks working in a restaurant understands the rigor and stress that comes with it. Restaurant culture is a tiny world in and of itself that operates on its own principles and creates its own society. It even has its own language. The sayings "runner", "corner", and "on a bus" wouldn't make sense to anyone otherwise. My mother and I both work in a restaurant and the best advice I can give someone going out to eat is to treat us like people. Yes...believe it or not we are people, people. Say "please" and "thank you", or stack your cleared plates before a busser gets to the table. Trust me, the gesture goes a lot farther than you may think.

So, if you work in a restaurant, you can relate with the following points. If not, check out how the brain of a restaurant service (or any customer service) worker actually works. See if you can identify any crazy weird habits your friends have a tendency to partake in.

One of the scariest things we will ever face in our life is going to college. Many of us move away to a new town, join new organizations, and make new friends. We are expected to study, have a social life, relationships, maybe work, and be healthy. It seems pretty easy to do, and in high school all we wanted to do was graduate and move on to this next chapter of our lives. If you are in high school, here are some things that you can learn from before you get to college. If you have already been through your freshman year of college, hopefully you can relate to the things I have learned in college.
