Summer. The season for beaches, sunshine and for college students across the nation: nostalgia. Months of wishing for summer are erased in just a few short weeks as students start to miss their friends and all the joys that accompany the stress of being at school. When you go to Baldwin Wallace, there's a lot to miss. Here are just a few of the things every Yellow Jacket is missing this summer.

1. Coe Lake in fall.

The beautiful colors of the changing leaves are almost enough to make you forget the brutal Ohio winter that's just around the corner.

2. Sending the token "Back in Berea" Snapchat to all your friends as soon as you get back on campus.

Because if you don't put it on your story, did it really happen?

3. Cyber dates.

Whether you're there for pre-meeting coffee, vent session coffee, or just to satisfy your ice cream craving, dates in the Cyber are a must for any functioning BW student.

4. "Studying" in the cyber.

Speaking of the cyber, any true YJ4L misses going to "study" in the cyber, which really just means pretending to study until you happen to see someone you know and strike up a conversation. A conversation that may or may not carry on for an hour or more, at which point there's really no point in studying any more since it's time for dinner.

5. Being able to Swipe things.

Because Swipe money is totally not real money, right?

6. Ordering Domino's for those nights when campus food just won't cut it.

"Just one more time," you tell yourself on your third Domino's night in a row. Don't forget the cinnamon sticks.

7. Using "Aww, Jackets!" in any sarcastic context possible.

It's out of love, we swear.

8. Going on Sheetz or Sonic runs with your best friends.

There's just something magical about driving through the quiet, wooded roads of Berea to a glowing paradise of fast food, you know? Plus those mac and cheese bites are unbelievable.

9. Five o'clock dinners.

If you're involved in Greek life—ahem, I mean fraternity and sorority life—then 5 p.m. dinners are a ritual you know must be upheld. Sure, it may put you in the same category as your grandparents when it comes to meal times but there's something grounding about seeing your non-biological family at the same time every evening.

10. BW squirrels.

Along with Stinger, these cute little critters are basically BW's mascot.

11. Your home away from home.

Because at the end of the day, you just really miss home.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
