11 Things Boulder Kids Miss During The Summer
CU Boulder

Summer is here and while many CU kids choose to hang around Boulder during the summer, many head back home during our time off. As nice as it is to relax at home and take some time off, there are so many things to miss about Boulder during the summer. Here are some examples:

1. The Flatirons.

How could you not miss these beauties? One of the best parts about waking up in the morning at CU is getting this gorgeous view on our way to class.

2. Chautauqua.

There's nothing we Boulder kids love better on a weekend that hitting up Chautauqua. It's just a few minutes away from campus, and hiking it is the perfect way to spend an afternoon!

3. Farrand Field.

Even if we are just getting homework done, Farrand Field is hands down the best place to relax out doors on campus. When the sun is out and the Flatties are in plain view, there is just nothing better.

4. Pearl Street.

There is no better way to spend a summer evening than hanging out at Pearl Street. The shops are awesome and the food is superb. Whether is be sushi at Hapa or a burrito at Illegal Pete's, Pearl Street is always fun!

5. The Hill..

The Hill is also the best place to hang out when the weather is nice. Catching a show at The Fox or a burger at The Sink is always fun.

6. Boulder Creek.

By far, one of my favorite summertime memories of Boulder is going tubing in the creek. The water is freezing, but its worth it!

7. Red Rocks Amphitheater.

One of the perks of being a CU student is that we are so close to one of the coolest concerts venues in the world! Catching a concert at Red Rocks is the highlight of anyone's summer evenings.

8. Downtown Denver.

In addition, Denver is so close to Boulder that you can easily spend a summer evening their. Catching at six dollar baseball game in the Rock Pile at Coors Field is my personal choice when spending the day in Denver.

9. The Rio.

No other vibe screams summer like the Rio Grande. Mexican food, margaritas, and a sweet rooftop ambiance, what could be better?

10. Farmer's markets.

There is nothing better on a Saturday morning than to go to the Farmers Market to pick up some fresh fruits and veggies and flowers!

11. The Buff.

Finally, there is no better place to start off a sunny summer morning than at The Buff. Hands down the restaurant I miss the most in Boulder.

We all love and miss you Boulder, and we are counting down the days until we return!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
