11 Things All People With Emotional Walls Know

As human beings we differ in the ways we respond to situations or people. Some of us are very open while others really aren't. Those of us that put up emotional walls face the same struggles in our relationships with people. So, it's really not all that surprising that we like to stick by ourselves or with a small trusted group of friends.

1. Trusting people is hard.

People who put up walls tend to have trouble with trust. We guard ourselves so much that it's hard to put down our defenses and trust people.

2. People think you're snobby.

You feel yourself constantly being judged because you don't automatically warm up to people. You stay at a safe distance for a while, which can come off as snobby even though you're really not trying to be.

3. Emotional talks tend to turn into arguments.

Your significant and friends try to get you talk about how you're feeling, but to no avail. It almost always ends in them frustrated and you denying you feel anything.

4. You bottle up everything.

Emotions are not things you show. You just pretend that they don't exist and that you live in a constant state of being "fine."

5. You push people away.

No matter how badly you want someone in your life, if you feel yourself starting to feel things you freak out and push away the person making you emote. Feeling safe and secure around someone is too alien of an experience for you to handle it.

6. You always have a way to cope when you're feeling too much.

Whether it's cooking or cleaning or exercise, you will do anything to escape from the tide of feelings waiting to engulf you.

7. You're a master at lying.

You're so good at it, you can even convince yourself that you don't need to be emotionally open.

8. No one has seen you cry in years.

You cry. Often, actually. But it's always in your room, in the dark, and into your favorite pillow or stuffed animal. The only living creature you'll allow to see you cry is your dog... or cat. But that's it.

9. When you're angry you just shut up.

You can't risk talking in case you happen to explode. So you shut up and wait until you've fully calmed down before you try to finish the conversation.

10. People wonder why you're so uncaring.

You can't even count how many dirty looks you've received at funerals because you're seemingly unfazed. Little do people know, you're holding it in and chanting your mantra of "Don't let people see you cry" over and over.

11. You identify so much with Elsa.

She is the Queen of emotional walls, and you can totally understand why she acts the way she does. You also secretly wish you had a pretty ice castle...

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
