As the school year approaches us yet again, we start to feel the pressure of getting everything ready, the stress of reading every syllabus in and out, and the anxiety piles on before we even have a chance to take a breath. Eighty percent of college students have admitted to feeling stressed during the school year and it's time we all learn ways to deal with this stress. Anxiety and depression go hand in hand with stress and with these tips and tricks, we can help ourselves grounded and brighten not only our days, but each others.

1. Blow off steam at your local gym or university recreation center.

Regardless if you are active or not, riding a bike or going for a run is a great way to clear your mind and even get out some anger.

2. Watch your favorite TV show.

I know some witty comments from Michael Scott or Andy Dwyer can bring my stress level back down.

3. Reach your inner child and color.

Whether you use kid coloring books or these relaxing adult ones, it is a fun way to get your mind off of school.

4. Listen to and discover new music.

Music can lead you to another world if you find the right artists and pieces. Let music relax you and take you to that place.

5. Go for a walk by yourself or with friends.

A nice sunset at night can be very peaceful.

6. Cry it out.

It is okay to let everything out because holding it in can only make it worse.

7. Treat yourself to your favorite "cheat" food.

There's nothing I love more than a sleeve of double stuffed Oreos.

8. Focus on time management.

This is a skill that not everyone has, but it is definitely something that can be learned. Reach out to those around you may it be friends, family, faculty etc. and see what they can provide for you.

9. Don't over-schedule yourself.

Nothing is worse than spreading yourself too thin. It's important to do extra curriculars but your health and happiness is even more important. Don't bite off more than you can chew!

10. SLEEP. SLEEP. SLEEP.

I know life gets in the way quite often, but getting at least 7-8 hours a night can make a huge difference in how you feel and perform day to day.

11. Make time for friends and family.

Spending time with those who love and appreciate you will make you forget about those negative stressers and remember why you woke up this morning.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
