Woo, it’s getting hot in here…and it’s not because of the weather. It’s because, with these fabulous fashion tips, you are going to be lookin’ fine all summer. No, but really, here are all of the trends you can expect this season – I found them on Google, so this is super legit. Get out a notepad and your wallet if you want to be cool. Ready? Go.
1. Stripes
Stripes. Stripes everywhere. The third outfit looks like the perfect thing to throw on, on a 90-degree day. Don't you think? Yes, fashion, you always get it right.
Stripes are actually a great option because their nautical feel is perfect for summer time. The clean and fun pattern spices up a simple outfit by providing texture and movement, and can be as bold or subtle as the wearer desires. Personally, I would pair one stripy piece with simpler pieces instead of rocking head-to-toe stripes. But, you do you, girl. Also, vertical stripes tend to be more flattering than horizontal stripes.
2. Sequins and Sparkle
Battle the sun for the title of "Brightest and Most Blinding Object in View." Your friends will love it! Personally, this is one of my favorite trends because it is a great way to incorporate some glam into your summer wardrobe. Sequins have a way of looking tacky, but you can avoid this by choosing pieces that have smaller-sized sequins with a muted finish that are in neutral or jewel tones. Break up the sequins with simpler pieces to make the outfit more wearable and chic. If you want to wear a sequined dress, try to find one that incorporates other elements. Both dresses below have mesh cutouts that help tone down the sparkle and make the look more mature.
3. Colors
This season, popular colors include Rose Quartz, Peach Echo, Serenity, and Snorkel Blue. Those exact colors might be hard to find, but don't worry. If you are having trouble, you can also wear Blushing Peony, Orange in the Sunset at 7:48pm MST, Eternity, or Speedo Goggle Periwinkle. All of those options are very similar and will give your wardrobe the perfect summer vibe.
4. Patterned Patchwork
Have you ever had the desire to dress like a hippy grandma? Well here's your chance! Patterned patchwork is all the rave this summer. This option is great because you don't have to match anything. You can get dressed in the dark or have a three-year-old pick out your outfit knowing that whatever you throw on will be considered super fashionable.
I actually think this trend looks great if you work with patterns that compliment each other. The pieces should have a unifying color scheme and include both small and large patterns to break up the craziness. This dress by Coach is a good example of patterned patchwork that works well together. And it's only $800! What a steal. I think I'll buy four.
5. Romantic Ruffles
Ruffles are perfect for summer because they are flow-y and lightweight. Find clothes with ruffles at the top or bottom of the piece that emphasize one area. The piece should also cinch at the waist or hug another part of the body to create a flattering silhouette that ensures the ruffles don't overtake the entire look. Remember, Snorkel Blue is a big color this summer, so try to find pieces in that exact shade.
6. Exposed Shoulders
This is a great way show some skin, but in an elegant and classy way. Just make sure you apply sunscreen to your shoulders before heading out the door. Otherwise tomorrow's accessory will be a nice sunburn. S'cute.
7. Pajama Dressing
So, all of my dreams have come true. Not only is it socially acceptable to now wear pajamas in public, it is also super trendy. You don't even need to get dressed in the morning. Just roll out of bed and you're on your way. Every day is pajama day from here on out.
In all seriousness, I think your best bet with this trend is to wear a silky, pajama-inspired top with some jeans or denim shorts and a cute pair of flats. If you try and rock the two-piece pajama set, I think you'll look too unkempt and people will wonder about your well-being.
However, if you're really into this look, here's another option.
8. Low-Slung Pants
I guess this is the fashion world's version of sagging? You could pair this look with some Calvin Klein undies to hit two trends at once. That's, like, double-fashionable. Definitely Insta-worthy.
This look is perfect for the laid-back professional woman who wants to look business savvy and trendy at the same time. I'm not sure a crop top is the most appropriate pairing for the office, so I would opt for a sleek button-down instead and get rid of the trench coat. Maybe trade it for a blazer? Actually, let's just scrap this trend altogether. Pajamas would look better than this.
9. Rucksacks
Here's a handy-dandy way to store all of your belongings this summer. I like this trend because you can fit more into this bag than a tiny purse (sunscreen, pool towels, your insecurities, etc.) and it's easier to carry around. With many different styles available, you can be sure to find the perfect one for you. A+ from me.
10. Logo T-Shirts
This casual look is a great way to stay on trend without looking like you tried to stay on trend. The classic "T" will always be a wardrobe staple, so you can never go wrong with this simple look. You can spice things up a bit by throwing a button-down shirt on top of it, or by pairing it with some leather pants and a shaved head. Or, don't do that. Yeah...definitely just stick with jeans.
11. The Tiara
I saved the best for last. That's right, friends, tiaras are a trend this summer. Show everyone that you are Queen by rockin' this super subtle look. When people stare at you strangely as you walk by, don't be dismayed. They are simply basking in your wondrous glory. Move aside, Beyonce. There's a new Queen on the streets.
But honestly, there really isn't any way to tone down this trend, so I suggest simply owning the look if it's something you are interested in. You might lose a few friends, but beauty is pain, right? The pain of emotional loss and the cold isolation of artistic expression.
If all else fails and none of these trends are working for you, just flaunt what God gave ya. Forget "Free the Nipple" and start a "Don't Prosecute my Birthday Suit" social movement to prove to people what's truly beautiful is the confidence to rock whatever you want. Or something like that. Happy summer, friends!
